Open Guns

Thanks hows Italy must visit the biggest capital of Italy in Canada Hamilton, ON. Heard the same that tang do break down alot.
 
+1,...what ROb said. My tanfoglio has only had a couple small parts replaced due to high mileage and preventative maintenance; nothing actually broke/

High mileage of a production gun is not exactly like a Open gun MO I got well over 20K through 2 of our open gun's.....no parts required so far except of course maintenance like springs and 1 recoil master.....(the RM was replace for free by STI at 23K's)

I'm sure that eventually I will have to replace some parts in fact I have many spares.

I do own one Open (small one) that had so much part change that the frame is stock ;) and only the frame! but it's a special cases and certainly not the norm.

My Edge (standard) 32K's all that was replace so far is the RM and the ambi's.....
 
tanf breaking down or not

Well someone who has a tanf told me the other day that he has to carry a container of parts incase they every break down. Why would that be? Why would some be breaking down and others not? I am looking for reliable gun that isn't going to frustrate me and end up breaking down in a middle of a match. I want to be in this sport for a long time. The least frustration the better. :runaway: Oh and looking good would be nice haha.
 
I do have 2 identical gun's because eventualy it will break and most likely at a match.......so I can send one for repair/rebuild, I shoot 25+K's per year.
 
You will find most experienced shooters will take a bag of parts for whatever gun they have to matches. Thats Leathams corollary to Murphy's law, if it will break, it will break in a match.
Production, Open, Revolver, all will carry spares, up to and including spare guns, since we all know things break.

Very true. I take two guns with me to matches, and I have a spare "Oh sh*t kit with me as well. I have done so with every gun I have ever owned, as ALL guns will break stuff from time to time with the amount of abuse we give them in IPSC. Mind you, I doubt you would be going through the same number of rounds per year that I do, so your mileage would vary.
 
I have spare parts for my open gun as well. I carry around a fitted hammer/sear/disconnector set in addition to all of the pins, ejectors, extractors and other internal parts.

I'm working on getting spare scope mounted with one of the removable mounts (Cape Custom) that retains zero so I can replace that, too if need be.

A big Thanks

A big thanks to all who have given me all your positive feedback and information. I know that all the information that you have given me will help me make a more informed decision on which way to go. Yes Rob as we get older we do need a better pair of eyes. We are not getting older we are just getting better.

I am assuming this is the same one you had questions about in January? Did you buy it? Why a 9mm major over a super 38? :confused:
 
Actually I shoot a 9x40 built by Cape Custom gunsmith, [urlw.cape-1911.com[/url]. I moved away from super a number of years ago because I was not shooting in the US that much, I like the characteristics of this cartridge better.

The gun that I was referring to is from one of Cape's customers, who is getting out of shooting for a while.

hi. did you get your gun yet? i was reloading 40sw and i passed on 38sa open gun. i tell you the costs went down a bit for the bullets but went up for the powder. i put 9.3 grains in a 124 bul with vw350n. in 40sw 5.4 grains in a 180 bul with vw340. almost the double. the price for a kg of powder is the same.so i say if you like 38sa and you have fun, you dont look at your wallet.
