Open up a 10 gauge choke - who does it in eastern Canada/Maritimes?

Got a 10 gauge double I want opened from full to M or IM.

I know there are a few guys who thread 10s in Canada; anyone know of a gunsmith in eastern Canada (pref Maritimes) who will just ream it open? I don't think I want it threaded.

Cannot help you with that one but would like to know who installs tubes in a 10ga in canada since I had to send my last barrel to briley in texas to get it done and could find even one smith here with the tools. I know where there is an old ithaca sitting which if I could get tubed here may buy. Thanks for the help

Precision in Ontario will do it. They quoted me $250 for a double barrel, so I assume a single would be less. (chokes were extra - $80 a piece I think). The Ithaca expert in Ontario (Ron Sharp) told me he won't do it, although he will ream them open - he told me he has the original machine used to ream open barrels at the factory.

I was looking at an Ithaca, maybe the same one. I went with a double instead, but it looked like an awesome old shotgun.

Try Blue Mountain Sports in Brown's Flats or Atlantic Firearms in Hillsborough. Blue Mountain does it for sure and I have used Atlantic Firearms in the past with very good results.

Thank you. I could not find anyone in canada to do 10ga when I was looking maybe 5 years ago same with 28ga and 16ga, off to briley US they went. That is quite expensive for the tubes since briley runs still around 275 total to thread with shipping, taxes etc and that is with three tubes.
This old ithaca is an old goose hunting pals' that has not been out since steel shot became law with a fixed full.
Thanks again

Does Gord ream out 10s, though? I know he does 12s. I like doing business with Blue Mountain, as they're fairly close, and he's a straight shooting guy, both literally and figuratively.

I called him specifically about a 10g double a couple of years back and if I remember correctly he did at that time but recommended installing chokes as a better option. I later sold the gun without touching the barrels so I don't have first hand knowledge of the work unfortunately.

He says he custom machines each choke individually for each gun, hence the price. It is what it is ...

Was that $275 number for a single barrel?

How do you go about shipping 10 gauge sxs barrels to Briley in the US? I have 2 spanish made 10 gauge sxs's I would love to have tubes installed into. Do you have to ship the whole gun or just the barrels? Does a dealer have to ship them or can I ship them myself? I always thought there were a bunch of issues when you ship gun components across the border?

+1!!!?????

I thought of sending the gun to Colonial or one of the other outfits, but it seemed like too much hassle.

I just checked Briley, and now they're charging $529 to thread a double 12, with five chokes included, and oddball gauges cost more. It's $319 to thread one barrel and get three chokes. Add in cross-border shipping and hassle ... I don't know if you'd save money or not.

I only ever had a single barrel 10ga quoted and done and not sure why it went up to 319 now but thanks for bringing me up to speed. If you go through Lawry's it is no hassle. I do notice the 10ga has also been removed from their standard price list which is something new where it was included with the others before. Now it is seperate below and 229 for 2 chokes??
I am going to say 18-24 months ago I had a 16ga wingmaster barrel done and it was 219 plus as was the 28ga. Those are still 219 this morning.

They are quoting 429 for 3 chokes on a SXS 10 ga

I think they changed very recently, as these aren't the prices I saw a couple of weeks ago, I don't think!
