This morning at 8:30 AM. A nice 2 pointer buck. Shot at 100 yards with a Tikka 6.5x55 with a handload of 140 SST and a mv of 2740. Complete pass through the lungs with blood gushing 6 feet from the buck. He did not make any movement, DRT. Nothing extraordinary or unusual probably but always a great joy and satisfaction. The 140 SST is perfect for the job.

Congrats on your success ;)

Congrats. Few things beat a freezer full of meat. I was gonna try and get out this past weekend but life decided breaking my toe was a better use of my time.

nice having some meat for the freezer. Takes the pressure off the rest of hunting season.
With early success myself it has been nice just getting out and enjoying time in the woods with friends.

congrats on the buck. ;)

Congrats!!!!

Got the 17th off work for the same reason in sask. Ill be using Same caliber with 140s too!

If I stay on my own 22 acres, I may try my ole sportered p14 with a 2.5 scope on it. Shot distance will be less than open prarie. (Just got a new extractor so I'm excited to use it again)

Surprised it starts that early over there, here in Manitoba it doesn’t start till Nov. 13th.

The general deer hunting season opened Friday, October 28, and continues to December 3. With one extra week for muzzleloaders. In fact, the muzzleloader season started September 23rd this year.

Nice! I’m going to be using a 6.5x55 this season as well in Ontario. 129 SST at a calm 2650 fps or so. Shoots nice tight groups with my old husqvarna sporting rifle. Nikon prostaff 5 2.5-10. May play with more powders in the future and pursue more velocity when I use up my H4831 target shooting. Hunted shotgun only zones the last 15 years so looking forward to finally using a real gun.
Enjoy that meat!
