First time out Goose hunting, A few friends brought me out, 4 guys and we brought home 9 Geese. We shot 8 out of the first flock that we called in and one lone goose came overhead just before dark as we were about to pack up and we called it in as well. I had an awesome time! Many more hunts to come :)

Not to mention we called in over 200 ducks and got them to land in our spread! Cant wait for duck season!!!

I got lots of meat for my first time out, Any cooking suggestions are appreciated! Not just copy and paste google recipes, I can do that myself, I want a proven good recipe that someone has already enjoyed!

Congrats!

As for recipies, I cut the goose meat into chunks & mix 5 geese with 1 package of bacon by grinding it into burger.

Makes fantastic meatloaf, meatballs & burgers!

Cheers

Congrats on the hunt.I have made up the burger as jay said and it is great. Another one is cut the breasts out and use roasted garlic and butter fishcrisp on them. Pretty simple but they turn out really good.

Soak two breasts overnight in milk or salt water. Cut the breasts into strips lengthwise, with the grain. Put the goose strips into a crock pot along with a sliced onion, a can of beer, salt and pepper to your liking. You could even add a few other seasoning of your choice, just don't go crazy with stuff. You can also substitute apple juice for the beer. Cook in the crock pot for 8-10 hours on low. When done remove goose meat and discard the rest. The cooked goose meat will now pull/fall apart into long "strings". Put goose meat back into slow cooker and mix with a liberal amount of your favourite chicken & rib type of BBQ sauce, either home-made or store-bought. All the meat needs to be well coated. Bring this mixture back up to temp on low and give it time to mingle - the longer the better. Serve hot goose mixture on a fresh kaiser like a pulled pork sandwich (cheese etc. optional). Two breast's make's quite a bit but I've found that re-heated leftovers having spent the night in the fridge are often the best. This is a great recipe to make for people that are not fond of goose since when it's prepared like this it could easily pass for some type of red meat like beef.

Well done sir!! I glad I'm not the only one with opening day success. Got 13 birds and a pail full of doves...(the photo was taken after my friends 79 year old grandfather who is recovering from a stroke in july took a few birds
