Took this fella at 6:35am opening morning of the season.
It was abit breezy and dark threatening skies .
I sat on a bushlot corner with wheat field to the south and east . I set up a decoy on each side , 25 steps away and waited for daybreak .
At 6:00am it was pretty quiet ,other than songbirds , until I sent out a soft yelp . Two gobblers to the west and another from the north gobbled right away . It was surprizing , they seemed quite far away . About 5 min later , I called again with another soft yelp and again they gobbled and they're closer . A couple of purrs and another soft yelp put the toms into a gobbling frenzy and they're moving in fast. Through the bramble I seen 2 toms coming in strutt up to my decoy .
Once they got close I had several oportunities to whack both with one shot ...but I held off...lol
They started to fight each other over the decoy , jumping and kicking . One backed down , then the other stood up nice and tall .....Boom Baby!
22.14lb
11 3/4" beard
1 1/4" spurrs
P.S.- Just as I took this photo , I heard a twig snap behind me ,I turned to see 3 deer , less than 30ft away watching...lol
