Okay, now i see all of these ruger receiver/trigger housing parts for sale online, and lots of people talk about doing the modifications, but how on earth do i safely take off the main side plating on the stock receiver when it is riveted on? Also how do i put something like that together afterwards?

Don't understand. To what model are you referring? Removing the triger housing from a 10/22 receiver? Its held in place by two pins - not rivets - which should push out easily.

Take the screw out of the bottom of the fore stock , lift the barrel & reciever
from the stock. Push the pins out that hold the trigger group to the reciever , and it will drop right out.
More pins (no rivets) hold the trigger group together. Careful about disassembling the trigger group , it's not rocket science but keep track of where parts fit .
It is really an easy gun to play with.
