I’ve got a Husky 96 and it occurred to me it would be easier and cheaper to feed if it was a 9.3X62. Can anyone recommend someone who can do that work in Canada?

Any gunsmith with the X62 reamer can do it, it is a very simple job. There is not much metal removed... just call your local gunsmiths to see who has a 9.3X62 reamer.

For the price of rechambering, you may be better off selling the 96 and buy a 98 9.3x62 from Tradex.

Just get reloading gear and you are good to go!

If I'm not mistaken the magazine needs to be lengthened to fit x62 factory ammo too? Likely a lot easier (and no more expensive) to do as SuperCub suggests and sell it and buy a x62.

I don't think a 96 will feed most of the commercial 9.3x62 ammo, too long.
98 is a better fit for the cartridge.

I have owned three Model 96 rifles that had been rechambered to 9.3X62.

Two did not have magazine or action rail work done, and would not feed reliably.

The other had the rails slightly altered and the magazine extended. It continues to feed, fire, extract and eject perfectly. :)

I kept my 96 in the 9.3x57 as it works so well with hardcast 270 gr bullets on game & for plinkin' fun. No need for more power for anything in N.A. inside 100 yds with a well placed shot on an unaware critter. I put the money saved by not rechambering into buying & fitting a Timney trigger along with bedding the action proper to keep the slim stock from splitting. I use Hornady dies & Norma brass for my reloads.
