Opinion for a life-long .22 pistol?

Try your best to get the actual Kadet pistol. I saw one last year but had no funds. I would have sold my Kadet kit, but it shoots so good.

They seem to be rare as hens teeth, I wanted to shoot my Shadow more as it just feels so good in the hand plus I have several 22's already..sigh!!

Another Kadet fan. went what you are going through, I even had the desired sig p210 with a 22 conversion kit extremely rare and sought after and good, among many other high end 22's, the keeper is the Kadet and is the only one I have kept. Looking for two more identical. they cycle any ammo are very well built, they run clean, and don't really lose their value.

Those not recommending them have typically never shot or handled one. They are fantastic pistols.

I bought a "almost new in box" Remington R-1 .45 off the EE for $475., topped it off with a new Kimber .22 conversion kit, $300. (EE) and now have a .45 and a .22 for $775. The R1 using the kit runs excellently, with unexpected accuracy. Haven't shot the .45 yet. Will probably convert it to a Series 70.

Sig 226 Classic is an option. Xchange kit to change to centerfire.

My vote is a Sig 226 Classic .22LR.
Has a rail so you could put a laser on for fun and switch to a centerfire round with a $300 Xchange kit.

If you want a dedicated .22LR pistol then M&P22. Good quality solid pistol, run used on the EE from $400-$500. you can buy them new at Jo-brooks for $449
