I currently use H335 for my bulk .223 loading, mostly because it's very easy metering in my Dillon.

Lately I've found myself wondering if switching to CFE is worth it for the apparent cleaner rifle??

Any good opinions, experiences and/or comparisons one might have to share? Any other good choices for bulk reloading in .223 with a standard Hornady 55 grn or Campro 55??

Also interested. When I run out of h335, I'll try something new. Or whatever is cheap. I used TAC before and didn't care for it. I have two pounds of varget I could burn up as well. The cfe223 and blc-2 interest me.

As far as I can tell (from pondering this very same question):

-CFE223 is generally more expensive than H335
-You need marginally more CFE223 to get the same velocity as H335
-CFE223 seems to perform slightly better with heavier .223 bullets (62gr+), whereas H335 seems to do better with 55gr and lighter.
-H335 is (in my neck of the woods) easier to locate in 8# containers than CFE223
-CFE223 has less flash and does keep your barrel 'cleaner'

CFE223 is slower than H335 and hence is more suitable for heavier bullets than H335 and vice-versa. As for price, X-Reload has them the same at present - $36.72/lb, both in stock and they have 8 lbs of CFE223 for $267.69. They are fast, and shipping is very reasonable.

I had been using H335, and Surplus WC-735 from Higginsons for 55 gr and lighter, and CFE223, BL-C(2) and even H380 for 69 gr and heavier (all ball powders for easy metering) and just bought 8 lbs of CFE223, as all I load for now is 69 gr and heavier.

I can't seem to find powder on the X-reload site?

I switched to CFE-223 for a few cartridges, including .223 50/55+ grain loads... better velocity & accuracy. I have not noticed that it is any cleaner.

I found it to pretty much mirror blc-2 in velocity and groups. Haven't seen anything magical about it being cleaner. Seems to be fairly temp stable. Used it lots this winter in 204 ruger and some in 22-250 with 50 v-max. Works good in my 375 h&h too with 250s. The one bonus around here is its on the shelf everywhere. Not many guys using it and Hodgons is pushing it out as the latest and greatest so there seems to be lots around.

I have both and found them to be very comparable. i havent noticed any cleaning benefits with cfe223, but ive never had a copper problem ever.
