opinion on baikal rifles

If you havent priced quality 11mm dovetail mounts yet. I would do so before purchasing a gun with this rail. I just put some on my Baikal izh-18. If I didnt get lucky and find a good set of steel rings from a friend it would have been about $75.

Or you could always take the cheap way out and use a Crosman Red Dot Sight. They work on both .22's and airguns and mount on any rifle or pistol with a 11mm or 3/8" dovetail mount. I believe they're about $20 most places.

these guns are crap! Jack

Depends on how high your standards are. For $100 for a brand new bolt action repeater .22 with 4 clips I think it's a really great deal!!! I don't regret my purchase for one second and I can see why some people have bought more then one of these guns. They seem like medium quality guns to me. I've seen many lower quality .22's. Used beat up cooey single shots .22's with no provision for scope mounts seem to be going for close to the same price as the Toz-78's. Not sure though why some people would put target scopes that cost more then twice what the gun did but that's up to them to have fun their own way. Think I'm probably going to go with a $50 Red dot scope but I'm still a little undecided.

Dreading the phone bill after that long distance call! Maybe if I talk really fast they can do the transaction in under a minute.

Unless you're on a sat.link, just about any LD call in Canada is under the price of a box of .22 ammo.....go on, you can do it......:p

How do you explain the BAIKAL TOZ-12 then??? I'm confused.

Ok, finally this Toz designation thing finally makes sense now. I see the connection between "Baikal", "Vostok", and "Tula(Tulsky)" . I found this info elsewhere and would like to share it here...

"The trade name "Vostok" was used by Tula for the export market as was the name "Baikal". The TOZ marking on "Vostok" branded rifles sometimes is stylised inside an inverted triangle on the receiver. Others are marked merely as "Vostok" or "Baikal" On such rifles may be found small proofs of a "T" in an inverted triangle. Apparantly there were phases in the USSR where the identity of the factory was purposely obscured."
