I am looking for feedback on glass.

I have a few that I have been looking at,

questions, are brand, zoom? and options on the scope,

I was either looking at Nikon, leupond, and vortex. either in a 3 - 9 x 40 or 4 x 10 x 40. I using it for hunting mostly,

thanks

They are not very good rifles. You should sell it to me instead at a steep discount.

Seriously. Excellent choice. I like 50mm objective scopes. So you may want to consider those. All three of those brands are good. If you can see the actual scopes at gun shops thats an advantage. Don't go above 4x10 in power for hunting. The tremendous number and quality of scopes now-days means there are many scopes like those that are good. If you're flexible as to brand you can probably save some $$.

Nikon is discontinuing their rifle scope line. So a great opportunity for steep discounts but I have concerns about their “lifetime warranty” sticking around and being of use. I think a 50mm objective vx3i is the best bang for your buck. People always praise Vortex for their warranty, and they are great, but I have NEVER been let down or disappointed by Leupold. They have always taken care of me when I needed something from them.

I wouldnt put anything over a 40mm bell on that unit and something along a 4-12 power in Leupold.
The 50 mm bell will require taller rings and thus putting your cheek higher and the list starts there.
140 grn bullets will do nicely for deer to Moose/Elk all at reasonable distances.
Good Hunting.

Leupold Vx3i 3.5-10x40, pick between Duplex, Boone & Crockett BDC reticle or CDS turret depending on your preference. I would suggest the CDS

I agree with spending a bit more and getting the VX-3i 3.5-10X40... but I would go with the B&C reticle... you might also find an excellent condition used VX-3 on the EE for $400-$500, if you are not in a rush.

Love my 2.5-10x50 Prostaff 7, like a slightly larger lens, any advantage I can get in low light, got moose at only minutes after legal shooting on a cloudy day against tree line recently. It seems to be either right at first or last light that game comes out a lot of the time.

With a 270 thats a fairly flat shooter you could take advantage of a 12 or 14 max magnification range, but if your in thicker woods a lower mag is nice (2.5 to 4 at the low end of magnification range). If it were me Id look at a 3-15x42 vortex HD LH, or a swaro or S-TAC 2.5-17 or something. I had enough bad luck with Leupolds that Im hesitant to recommend them, although Korth group seems to be top notch with theyre response and warranty to support Leupolds here.

Meopta Meostar R1 Tactic. The 44mm bell is a perfect, snug fit ensuring your cheek never has to rise off the stock looking to focus...it is large and heavy, but will make help you make some amazing shots, and last you a lifetime!

The size of the objective bell has nothing to do with fit other than dictating the ring height... the centerline is the same for all objectives in the same ring height.

For ring what size am I looking at low or med ?

It depends on which rings you go with, some lows will work, but all mediums will work with the Leupold 40mm objective. With Ruger standard rifles, the factory low rings work with the Leupold 40mm. Best bet, if nobody has the specific combo, is to take scope and rifle in to your LGS and try some for fit... not just fit to the rifle, but also fit to you... the lowest possible is not always the best fit for the shooter.

When buying a Leupold, make sure it was made in the US and it is not a Chinese copy. Call Leupold with the serial # if buying used, check their website for the number to call. Watch out for fake Leupolds when buying mail order.

Not a concern with reputable dealers or CGN sponsors... they all come through established distributor channels... but worth checking out on used items... I ran into one on the EE.

I wont trust a vortex on a hunting rifle. Most nikons i dont like the reticles on. I hate those circles. The black series had decent reticles though. Leupold is a solid choice

Im loving my nightforce shv
Swarvoski makes a nice lighter weight scope
Ziess is also a solid performer as well
