Opinion on new optics for a new t3x 270 tika i just got,

Maybe a budget would help op? You’re getting $1k plus suggestions now. While Swarovski, Nightforce and Zeiss optics are top tier, you can get it done with the lower end Leupold, and midrange vortex and Nikon for a third the money.

I was either looking at Nikon, leupond, and vortex. either in a 3 - 9 x 40 or 4 x 10 x 40. I using it for hunting mostly,

My T3 .270 LSS wears a Zeiss Terra 3-9 x 42. The Terra is now gone from their lineup but some shops still have stock. It was definitely an entry-level into the Zeiss lineup, but it's always clear and bright when I look through it. I've taken lots of deer in very low light as far out as 200 yards without any issues.

I have a 2-7x32 on my 270 and don't feel I need any more zoom for hunting. It's small and light in weight which doesn't seem to negate the handling of the rifle that a big scope can do.

50mm scope on a light hunting rifle always looks wrong to me and cheek fit on the stock will be poor nless you install some kind of cheek riser. 40mm is as large as i like on a big game rifle.

Weight is important if you carry a rifle all day. I like a 2-7x32 or a compact 3-9x40 on carryy rifles. The 11 lb rifle/scope is not as appealing as it once was.

I used a fixed 4x for years and I'm thinking of going back to it.

I’ve had good luck with Nikon’s. Too bad they are discontinuing scopes. I bought a vortex crossfire2 in 4-12x44mm bdc. Really liking it so far. Good in between 40 and 50 objectives. Not a crazy price on it either.

If you are shooting at close range or have the potential for very close range shots i would suggest 2x on the low end. A 2-7 as mentioned is a good option. A 2-10 is a bit better but harder to find in your price range (sightron makes one that is 4-500$ i am sure there are other brands).

3x is not terrible but i find 4x and above can be a detriment if its to close and you are short on time

I am another shooter who favours 40mm objective lens. I dislike larger diameters. I have never had a problem with not having enough visibility at last legal shooting light with the 40mm.
