I am looking at getting a revolver in 9mm. The choices are limited.

I am not particularly interested in Alfa Proj or Charter Arms, so that leaves the Ruger Blackhawk 357/9mm.

Does anyone have experience with it? Is the accuracy of 9mm really inferior to the accuracy of 357/38 Special? Any insight I should know?

Thanks.

I've never shot a Blackhawk, so I can't really answer your question... But it seems weird to me that you're contemplating a revolver, but haven't considered a Smith? Or are you specifically wanting a revolver that you can shoot both 9mm and 38/357? Don't know if the Smith 9mm revolvers have 38/357 cylinders available for them.

I have a super Blackhawk in 44, and a GP100 in 357/38. I had to put the Hogue rubber finger grove grips on both to make them comfortable for my larger hands. The Blackhawk was a bit unruly with the standard buckhorns, but now with the much larger grip it shoots amazing and as accurate as it could be with a VERY light trigger. I am now considering changing the front sight tho as my eyes are getting older, hi-viz is better. I absolutely LOVE shooting the Blackhawk now but I can't imagine it in a smaller cal tho, it's a beast of a gun and begs for big bore. The GP100 on the other hand is a double action and is an absolute treat to shoot . It loves everything I put through it. 357, 38 and 38P+. These come with hi-viz sights and feel great in the hand with the rubber palm swell grips. Pretty sure you can get them in a 9mm too, but the 38/357 are more popular, great trigger and very accurate.

I hope it helps. Enjoy!

Are the Convertible blackhawk's in stock these days? I rarely see them on the EE but there was one at a pretty decent price on there last week.... if you are interested I'd just jump in.... not much to loose if you get a good deal on it used.

The sights are not that easy to change on the blued black hawk models.

I wouldn't worry too much about accuracy claims made on line with the convertible models.

The Alfa 9mm's are pretty nice as well. Main difference between the two is the single action vs double action aspect. Not everyone likes the feel of a single action revolver in the hand..... have you shot many single actions? Or even double actions?

I have two 357 Blackhawks one with a nine cylinder. I cast my own bullets for them. I find the nine is just as accurate as the 357 rounds. My 38 target loads with wadcutters being the most accurate. I don’t use the nine cylinder much as I prefer my 1911 in nine. Changing the grips to Hogue was definitely worth while, fit much better in my hands.

I’ve owned several for similar reasons as I shoot mainly 9mm. Great zombie apocalypse gun in my mind with versatility to shoot three different calibres. Mine were all plenty accurate enough for my shooting, and I’ve owned both old and new models. I would still own one if money hadn’t got tight when the pandemic hit.

Is the front sight easily replaceable on the Blackhawk? On my GP100 (22LR) and Single Ten, it's child's play.

Is the Blackhawk using the same type of front sight?

Not sure abuot the other Blackhawk modes but with the "new model Super"...No, it's a different set up all together. But still easily changeable.

I had and still own single and single/double action revolvers. I find myself shooting in single action most of the time with my single/double action.

Too bad the front sight is not as easy to replace as on a GP100, but I can live with that. The versatility of the Convertible model is enough to make me overlook this detail.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in. You convinced me and I just dropped the cash on a 6 1/2" blued Convertible model.

Look what the mailman brought!

It looks and feels amazing! I can't wait to take it to the range!

Ordered on Tuesday and received on Friday. The Québec CFO and Al Flaherty's make a great pair!

Hi. The one i had was laser accurate with 357mag.
Accurate with 38 special .
4" @25 yards accurate with 9mm.

I have the 22 revolvers with both cylinders. I find they are noticeably more accurate with the magnum ammo.

The barrel is the larger bore diameter required for the magnum diameter bullet. The 22LR bullet is a bit loose in that barrel and this may be why the accuracy drops off with 22LR ammo.

I have always assumed that the same thing would happen with the 357/9mm. The barrel would be made for a 357 bullet and the 355 9mm bullet would be a bit loose and maybe lose some accuracy.

Just an assumption. I never had one or tried one.
