Opinion on the Tikka Varmint in 270win

My hunting rifle is a T3 Lite in .270, and it shoots around 1/2 MOA with 130gr SSTs, h4831SC, Fed brass, and Fed 210M primers.
When I zeroed it for hunting season last fall the cold bore fouling shot was 3/8" high, and the next three shots went into .18" at 100yd off a bipod.:D

I thought about getting the Varmint version but it was special order with up to a year lead time and a 50% deposit. I'm glad I didn't. The Lite is plenty accurate for LR hunting and much easier to carry than the .223 Varmint I have for LR precision.

WOW.....I am glad you asked. The twist rate is 1-10.I am not sure as to what bullet weight would be good for that...Berger makes a 155ish gr match(horny lookin I might say!!) I should hit the books a little harder and research ideal twist rates, but history of the 270 is long but very narrow in rifle builds. This may be because it worked so well...no one wanted to re invent the wheel again!!

;)

Berger recomends 1 in 10 for their 150 gr VLD hunting ( BC .531). I'll guess that anything heavier willl be marginal at best. A BC .531 and about 2900 fps isn't too bad (a quick look around shows factory loads with 150 gr bullets @ 2850). You should be able to do a little better than 2900 with handloads. Hell the more I think about it the more I wish I wasn't broke.

I picked up my first T3 Varmint this fall and think it is a great gun. I too do not like the stock so I decided to build my own. They do shoot.
