i was considering maybe getting into a new semiautomatic 22 for some target shooting and maybe some reactive target fun. i was wonder what all u plinkers out there are using and what u find good reliable :)

I've had five,, two anshcutz,a ruger 10/22 and 2 thompson center R-55's, Now i have only two, the thompsons, they only like cci minimag ammo and are very accurate, wouldn't buy any other semi 22. They are based on the Ruger 10/22 with improvments and use shillen match stainless barrels.

I got a mossberg 702 plinkster and its pretty decent. By far not the most accurate gun but still pretty good. Its been reliable with every type of ammo i put through its super light at only 4.5lbs.

Do not leave out the Marlins , my 990l is the most accurate semi I have ever owned, this includes the many Mossberg 151s I have.

be prepared to buy add-ons for the 10/22 to make it shoot.

Browning Buckmark FTW......absolutely the funnest rimfire I have ever owned (out of a couple hundred)

The Thompson Center is a close second.

Speaking of Buckmark

I've always been curious of the Browning SA-22.

Real neat....loads go into the side of the stock and casings eject from the bottom of the receiver....the barrel takedown is also very neat.

What do you mean by "to make it shoot"?

I have a 10/22 that is stock, 30 years old and shoots as good as any stock semi .22LR that you have. I will be willing to bet large on that...

This is typical of the results I get with the following:

Circa 1980 Ruger 10/22 carbine
Stock (out of the box)
Winchester 333 bulk ammo
Burris Fullfield II 3X9X40 scope
Bench rested at 100 meters
1 round per second rate of fire (estimated)

Is there any noticeable soot blown towards your eyes from the Buckmark? I did read somewhere that someone was saying that was an issue for them when it cycled. I'd like to hear your experience/thoughts as I have thought about getting a Buckmark.

Yes, but only with super hot ammo (CCI velicitors, stingers) but it's not severe and rarely an issue...and a completely a non-issue if you wear glasses. :)

30 years ago, the 10/22 wsas a different animal....great materials and fit and finish. The new 10/22 is all about the bottom line $$ for Sturm Ruger, and in stock form is utterly craptastic.
