opinion on wats the best 22 caliper semi

I've had five,, two anshcutz,a ruger 10/22 and 2 thompson center R-55's, Now i have only two, the thompsons, they only like cci minimag ammo and are very accurate, wouldn't buy any other semi 22. They are based on the Ruger 10/22 with improvments and use shillen match stainless barrels.

x2 on TC R55. Mine likes the CCI std velocity (< 1moa at 100m). Unlike the 10/22 the R55 has last shot hold open and does not require modifications to release the bolt by simply pulling back. The barrel attachment is also different, not held by V-Block - are actually quite bit different (personally do not see how one is based on the other with the exception that both semi auto .22s).

The Browning SA serves a purpose but not as accurate as the T/C or Marlin 60.

S&W M&P 15-22

Most fun I've ever had with a .22

I have a Trijicon Acog clone mounted and it makes for lightening quick shots at less than 50 yards. Just ding, ding, ding... sounds like a fair ground.

Accuracy at 100 isn't bad. 2 inch or less at 100 yards with a bipod.

A Savage/Lakefield/Cooey 64 is a great all around semi 22. Very accurate and reliable straight outta the box. Keep it relatively clean and it will never fail you.

If only they weren't restricted.

Before you buy one, you might want to be sure you know the difference between a caliper and a caliber, wouldnt want you spending money on the wrong thing.

All this time i understood this was a gun forum. My mistake its a place were people with nothing better to do with there time except pick apart a post are. if u dont have anything worthwile to say dont say anything thats what i was always told. but on a side note being a machinist i know exsactly what a caliber and caliper are thanks for ur concern.

His point was that we might as well spell as much as we can correctly, in order to understand what is being said. No reaon to become agitated.

Do not leave out the Marlins , my 990l is the most accurate semi I have ever owned, this includes the many Mossberg 151s I have.

be prepared to buy add-ons for the 10/22 to make it shoot.
I don't know what's true about this statement, I bought a brand new ruger 10/22 about a month ago and threw a cheap bushnell scope on it, and I can shoot under .500" at 50 yards no problem

Hell my friend has an old marlin and anshcutz and he has a hard time doing that.

I was very impressed with the way the 10/22 shot out of the box

10/22 gets my vote.
Also you can get high-cap mags and speed loaders for the mags which means you get to spend more time shooting than reloading. I don't think any companies make loaders for any of the other guns, but I could be wrong.

The old Weatherby XXII are one of the smoothest semies I have ever owned, the BRNO 581 comes in second, the Browning semi is hard to beat especially if you have small children this is easilly handled! I once borrowed a freinds Berretta Olympic with a factory mounted scope, it was amazingly accurate, I only passed on buying it as at the time I wanted more magnification than 2.5 power! One of the guns I wish I never let get away! Dale in T-Bay

I'm sure you will hear ruger 10/22 from many but the remington 597 is equal in accuracy just without the options of many accessories unless you get the VTR

My remington 597 I shot 100 rounds at 50 yards made a group of just under 2" consistently not one was outside and at 100 meters groups were less than 4". This is with the stock scope, rings everything right from the original purchase which all costed less than 300 bucks, blazers ammo is the best bang for your buck and certain CCI's are a tad more accurate
