I have a semi and a O/U but recently bought a SXP in pink camo to put away for my daughter. As a cheap shotgun it seemed to be of decent quality. A retailer has both the Field (wood stocked) and a synthetic one with 2 barrels for a decent price. Would you buy one with a sub $500 budget for a pump? Any benefits to having the combo gun over the Field with the wood....

Shotguns I am considering are the
Mossberg 500 12-Gauge Classic Field Pump-Action Shotgun
and
Winchester SXP Field 12-Gauge Pump-Action Shotgun

I am 5ft10 with average to longer arms. What pump action will I have more fun with?

I was thinking of using the gun either as a bang around gun to throw in the side x side but that is also also nice enough to shoot a bit of trap with on occasion. I want a shotgun that doesn't rattle and announce my presence to the forest when out hunting. I'd like something that won't rust out on me if I am too lazy to clean for a day or two out in the bush etc... or if it doesn't won't affect function or put me out of big cash if somehow a boat overturns etc... Which would you choose?

I recently purchased a camo SXP with the 24" barrel and removable rifle sights. I really like it so far . For a budget gun it works great. It is light and the inertia assisted action is fast and smooth. The only complaint is the location of the safety at the front of the trigger guard. I prefer it at the rear.

I have the Mossberg 500, three barrel combo, and it a pretty good gun, it covers all types of hunting for me, and has never given me any sort of problems.

Hmm the 3 barrel option looks interesting and would cover all potential future needs. Especially if the tyranny takes away my semi.
I will go check out the mossber 3 barrel next time I am in a store that has one. Can the 3-1/2 inch cycle the 2-3/4 shells well? And or even the 1-3/4 mini shells? I dont see myself shooting 3.5inch much if ever but would take tst option if it does it all otherwise would want a 3" option.
