Hi there,

I handled a composite 9mm Bushmaster which, with it's 7.5" barrel, is an AR-15 pistol... Thinking of getting it, just with an actual rifle stock - any comments? Thanks

My information may be a bit out of date, but the 'water resistant Carbon Fiber composite' the receivers are made from had a reputation for being not very durable at one time. I don't know if the problem has been fixed.

On the other hand, Rock River Arms is now building 7 and 10.5-inch 9mm AR pistols. Questar is currently taking orders. The difference in price is negligible.

With the Bushy you're likely going to be limited to Bushy's accessories, but with RRA you're not limited at all. RRA also gives you quite a few options with regard to accessories from the factory.

My two cents.

I am going to put this stupid Bushmaster carbon fiber urban legendto bed for once and for all. I have a one, about 1 year old. Mine has the 16 SS fluted barrel, very accurate for a light barrel AR. I also have the following uppers that work great with it:

20" DPMS 223 1 in 7
11.5" DPMS 223 heavy barrel
5.5" 9mm, I can't remember the brand
20" DPMS 22LR

Everything functions great, no failures to feed or eject. That's 4 different bolt carriers. The only bad thing I can say is the design for the 6 position stock is a bit of a pain. Otherwise functions great. It weighs 4.3 lbs! I have a handgun that weighs more! Buy it and enjoy. It's a good base to add 223 uppers too. Check the photo section later this weekend.

My two cents.

Are you gonna use this for IPSC 3 gun? get a carbine, but in .223. the mags will be a lot easier to come by and I think cheaper(?)

Bushmaster has their own Poly mags which work in Colt pattern guns ie. RRA, Colt, Bushmaster, they are not Pez dispensers either.

hey,

Thanks, guys. No, I don't do 3-gun, it would be just for fun shooting... I prefer 9mm over .223...

If you prefer the 9mm over the 223 then you should look at the Glock AR from Olly arms that Questar is selling. The only thing is you cant change it to 223 but you can switch it for a 40 cal upper. Its great if you have the Handgun too because they take the same mags.Mine will be in my hands on tuesday:) Just a option if you like the look of a AR but want to shoot 9mm:)
