Sounds like a great idea. Used to shoot CIL ammo years ago. The Canadian market is rather small, export to the US would surely improve the chances of success with your venture.

go outside and count all the kia and hynduai cars. or perhaps you drive one yourself

I would love a Canadian-made Hyundai-like ammo option: better quality at a comparable price.

Just like Prairie Shot Ammunition out of MB; Score shells cost maybe $5 more per case than the cheap stuff, but run cleaner and more reliably. That is what, 0.02 more per bang?

I would think that you would need a sound business plan along with financing. Opinions on an internet forum should not be the basis for a rather large business decision like that. I'd love to see a Canadian manufacturer. But I also think 3.5 million would not be enough capital to start up a manufacturing plant. Let alone marketing & distribution, staffing, regulatory (legal) issues, etc.. (land, taxes, waste....)

I think I would agree; I think it's a GREAT idea, but I am not sure that 3.5M would be enough to be able to table a product to the Canadian consumer at a reasonable price point, and I am not sure the business could be supported on the idea of a Canadian product at a higher price is better ---- rounds of ammunition are expendable, to my estimation, most guys will tolerate the odd misfire at a bargain price, but won't tolerate that if they are paying premium prices. Just my 2¢ (which would be a dreamy price per round for .22!!!!)

Ideas and opinions are like a**holes in the sense of everyone's got one. 3.5 million if you can get it, might get you the equipment and machines needed to start production. I work at a manufacturing facility. We just spent 1 million on one Hydraulic press that is already 10 years old and needs to be upgraded and refitted so bust out another 100,000. I just hope you don't include the forum as potential revenue. The cost of materials and supplies are always up and the cost of SKILLED labour just for maintenance and start up is going to suck up the 3.5 mill in no time. Your going to need a really good business plan and a whole lot more money. But this is just MY opinion. Good luck.....and whatever you guys do don't use your houses as collateral.

Edit: Also you say you want to produce a quality product, hopefully you can float a couple bad batches as quality and consistency will need to be fine tuned before a proper procedure can be implemented.

I can be your "venter" for powder. As soon as I liquidate a few assets like my 1996 Hyundai accent and my collection of Pokemon cards, I will be in full production in my mom's garden shed. I can't sell by the train car, but I have lots discarded Chinese take-out containers on the floor of my room here in the basement. I can ship powder that way. This should be easy, i hear that gun powder is like 90% baby powder. Let me know...

your business plans would work much better in Quebec, way cheaper Hydro, land & payroll taxes, Quebec offers grants for new start-up company's Liberals have ruined Ontario

If you plan on setting up anywhere near Ottawa and need a retired Certified Instrumentation Tech. (and you WILL!!) that will work part time for ammo and shares, send me a PM.

Come to Manitoba, shipping throughout Canada would perhaps be more enticing to more people as you smack in the middle of it...But, ya.....do it!!

Great idea! BUUUT, try to get permits for operating a facility that stockpiles powder. Not going to happen in lower mainland. Too many bleeding hearts and do gooders. Wish anyone luck with their business plan.
