Guys I got interested with shooting II WW era rifles. I got nice Mosin Nagant 1890/35 and now I want to put a nice POS-1 scope on it.
My next buy, hmm, here I have a problem.

I always want to get descent Lee Enfield, but those days is hard to get good one and they run high, more then 550 for nice piece.
SO I am looking at Mauser k98, but my army friend, old school guy, who knows a lot about II WW rifles said, buy a Schmidt-Rubin, Swiss rifle.
It is a nice shooting and good quality rifle.

What do you think?

Is that Swiss rifle a good shooter, or better go with Mauser?

Thanks

Both are available at P&S Guns and Militaria, check out Jean's website, compare prices and make your decision. THey're both nice rifles, but 7.5Swiss ammunition is even harder to find than 8mm Mauser.

Skippy, I gonna load for that cal, what I need is the dies and brass, bullets same like .308".

Thanks for your comment ;)

If you're handloading anyway then your options are pretty open.
The best bet would probably be to handle both rifles, if you happen to know someone who owns one or both, and just see what fits you.

K31 is an extremely accurate rifle, most accurate service rifle I have ever owned. It is easily scoped (offset a bit) with the St.Marie clamp on mount. The St. Marie diopter is a nice kit as well if you are into that sort of thing. Lee makes good dies and brass is easily formed from .284 Winchester.

just can't see how you wouldn't have have a lee in your collection at some point, its almost a must for us canucks.

Lee is coming, but for now I want to get German k98 and Swiss k31.

I am so surprised with my Mosin Nagant shooting so great at 100yr that I have decided to accurize it even more and install a scope.
I have PSO-1 (1970 production) and can get PU scope from my buddy in Poland.

Greetings,

Peter

Get the K31 first. Bores should be be much better.

There are many more K98s out there than K31s.

Decent 8mm ammo would have to be reloaded anyway, unless you can afford European Brand name ammo.

I have got k31, still gotta go to my Local" gun store (only 120km drive) and pick it up.
I have ordered brass and dies from States and I should be good to go in few weeks.

Thanks for the respond

buy a PU scope, an Enfield, a mauer and a Schmit rifle, trust me, it only gets worse from here, trying to justify one milsurp rifle over the other can be quite hard, getting one of each solves that problem and discussion entirely. :p
