Just wanted to get some opinions and what you guys think on 30-30 vs 44mag. If you could only have one, most versatile, being able to hunt, defense, kill zombies.. whatever.

If the Turd et al are bent on banning legal handguns then a trapper length lever action in .44 Mag just might be the new S&W Model 29, no? :p

The 30-30 " can do " everything that a 44 mag can do , and more ; the 44 mag " cannot do " everything that a 30-30 can do . Therefore the 30-30 is the most versatile of the two .

I have a lever gun in both 30-30 and 44mag and reload for both.

The 44mag is a lot easier to reload for in volume as I can go straight from cleaning the brass to reloading it in a single pass through my Dillon 650. For the 30-30 it's clean the brass, lube & resize, measure, trim if needed, if trim then chamfer, clean the brass again to remove the lube, then reload on the 550.

I reload for my S&W 629 anyhow, so just run a bigger batch to shoot both

I've seen articles about people using a 44 for Grizzly Moose deer etc. heard people have used the 3030 for moose deer etc . the 3030 will give you more distance from what I gather . 44 mag 240 grain bullet at what 1800 fps. 3030 150 to 170 grain bullet at what 22 or 2300 fps ? 3030 flatter shooting . from what I've read. I've shot both . if I could only own one I'd have the 44mag . a good one . Marlin or Winchester . much more easier to reload for . I'd have more confidence in the 44 slug . now this is just my opinion . if I was hunting with either I'd keep my shots at a max or 100 yards . I'd prefer 50 yards with these calibers . good luck and happy safe hunting .
