Opinions: 9mm Glock

A while back I picked up an Olympic Arms K9GL, the AR which takes Glock pistol mags.

I have a Glock 23, and now I'd like to get a 9mm Glock so I can have mag interchangability between pistol and rifle.

I like the feel and size of the 23 for my hand. I've been thinking about getting a new G19 from Questar, but I'm also thinking about ordering a 9mm barrel for my G23.

Opinions?

Should I sell the 23 to finance a 19? Or just order an additional barrel (and mags) and swap them back and forth? Any disadvantages to a gun "sharing" barrels in different calibres?
 
That's a good idea. It's just a few parts to swap from 40 to 9 in Glocks.

You can probly frind a drop-in 9mm barrel for cheap, then you need a "trigger housing", which has the appropriate to 9mm ejector as part of it.

Don't take this as gospel, I don't remember what all is and isn't necessary for the switch.
 
Don't forget, the bolt face, extractor and ejector may be different sizes.
They may in fact physically work and be interchangable, as do a lot of Glock products, however, they aren't designed with interchangability (don't know if that's a word) in mind.

From your question I can't determine exactly which barrel you want to swap, the Oly Arms barrel or the Glock barrel, but either will have the same considerations.

Some calibre swaps are easy, some aren't. Some are dangerous, some aren't.

My experience has been that once you have bought the new parts required for a "quick change" you've almost paid for a new gun, without the benifits of another new gun. Which in my opinion, it's always nicer to have a new additional blaster:D .
 
I am with Koldt on this one. In some cases a conversion kit makes sense (read CZ75 or 1911, or heck, even glock 22), but most often best to just add another to the safe!

by glock 22, I mean the Glock .22 conversion kit...
 
To my knowledge , what is fairly limited , that swap won't work .
You can change a 40 to a 357sig no problem but I think a 9mm will require a different slide .
Isn't a g23 a prohib ?
You'll need the g17 mags anyway so you might as well get a g17 pistol but if you sell the g23 I hope its not your only 12-6 .

Not so, my G23 shoots 9mms as well as my G19. I bought a Bar-Sto barrel and some G19 magazines and that was it. I like the G23 well enough to have a Lone Wolf 357 Sig barrel on order (in the mail).

Whoops. I should have been a bit more clear.

The 23 is a "restricted only". It has a 106mm Bar Sto barrel.

The long and boring story is that it was one of the first guns I bought, when I knew relatively less about firearms. It had an extended ported barrel, and was registered as 107mm, restricted only.

The neat thing is the barrel had the serial number on it and appeared to be Glock factory. I showed it to a guy at work who knows quite a bit about guns and he was impressed and said it must be some special edition.

But I was having some trouble with it and took it to a gunsmith, who under closer examination pointed out that it was a stock Glock barrel with an extension welded on. A good job of welding he pointed out (you couldn't see a mark at all on the outside of the barrel) but nonetheless it was only rifled to 102mm and thus prohibited. And I don't have a licence for prohibited.

So I ended up getting a 106mm Bar Sto barrel via Questar and we all lived happily ever after.

In the end the gun cost me more money than I should have spent, and some level of grief.

From has been mentioned here, swapping out the barrel may require swapping out various other small parts and may cost me even more money and grief.

Plus I like Koldt's idea of having another gun!

Did you have to specify that it's a 9mm barrel for a G23, and would there be any extra cost in that? (I'm not sure if the barrels themselves, aside from the obvious inner diameter, would be different sizes)

If you don't mind my asking, how much did the barrel run you? I think my replacement Bar Sto was around $250 plus taxes and shipping.

1. No, I have had my Bars-Sto barrel for years.
2. No, I explained to Irv that I wanted the 9mm barrel to work in a G27 and his elves sent me the wrong barrel. I took one look at the barrel, fell in love, kept it for my G23, ordered a second barrel for my G27, and Irv ate the shipping.
3. the cost was $185 (US) and the current price is $200 (US).
