Opinions about H-S Precision Rifles?

Folks,

Does anybody have an opinion on H-S Precision Rifles? I'm looking to get a VAR in 7mm Rem Mag. They're a bit pricey and the people I know who own one absolutely love them.

For a production rifle they are pretty good, HS has done alot right with their offering. Cut rifled barrels that are decent quality, a modified 700 action with a not bad trigger group, a decent fiberglass stock, and pretty good detachable mag system. As long as you get 1 that was made mid week, overall a decent rifle. The 1s I have worked on and shot, shot quite well.
Should you have any warranty issues or need some customer service however....

For not much more $$ you could have a rifle built with the components you want based on a 700 action.
 
Why not just get an HS Precision if you really wanted one, the resale value are very good, also they are very well know rifles maker, you wouldn't have a problem of selling it later, if you ever change you mind.....I am looking at getting an HS_Precision at wholesales and sport, they regularly brought it in their store in 308win, 300win, 300WSM...not that I am advertise for they, but I think it worth the money, if that what you want, you should check it out before making a big decision on a big ticket price item like such.

Yup the resale is JUST like any other USED rifle, you loose at least 25%, which in my thinking means the more you spend on a rifle, the more you loose when you sell it.
 
I have a friend with one and it is a nice rifle that shoots well.

For how much they are you can build a nice custom on a Remington M700 action with top notch components and have an equivilent or better gun at considerably less cost.
 
They're nice rifles, but I've witnessed a HS Precision .300WM beaten hands down by a Rem 710 .30-06 in a friendly competition at 200 yards. Fluke? Maybe. Operator error? Perhaps. :runaway:
 
I have a HS in a 300 wmag I have shot 5rds .125 moa @ 100yds. I love this rifle. The real magic is in the custom load which is lock up with the Colonels secret recipe.

I have an H-S Precision HTR in .300WM. I really like the rifle. Once I got the muzzle brake issue sorted out (by taking it off and shooting without) it shot very well. The rifle trigger on it is very nice. The fit and finish of the rifle seems to be very good. All in all I can definately see a difference in quality over other cheaper rifles. Having said that, if you can have Rick built you a rifle in the same calibre for a little more then I would probably go with that. I have seen Ricks work and the attention to detail that you get in his rifles is second to none, definately not second to any production rifle out there. If you want a very good quality production rifle then by all means go with the H-S, but if you want an exceptional quality custom rifle, then go with an ATRS custom.
P.S. if I didn't get such a good deal on my H-S from Airborne then I would have probably saved up a little more money and got Rick to build me one.

You'd previously said that you'd liked yours. I was curious to know why someone would sell a high priced rifle that they said they enjoyed.

Actually, I haven't but I've long admired their product and would definitely consider one if it was what I am looking for. Hence, my interest in the thread.

I've heard nothing but positive comments about them, except for those individuals that don't have a preference for their stocks.

HS stocks are hit or miss with me. I like the older VS stocks and love the LTR style, of which I have (3). I've several of the newer VSSF and 700P stocks and despise the palm swell.
 
My Comment on HS_Precision rifle, is not directly again purchasing rifle from Rick of ATR, because I never had any experience with it, but I do had some experience with HS, have at P&D every now and then, shot in twice out in Genesee with buddy rifles, but never buy one, because they din't have my Caliber...
but If Rubber ducky was asking about between HS and Rick ATR rifles, I would of said, check both out and make you own decision.

I've shot three now, and they all were accurate rifles. BUT, I have a good friend who received his from HS with the barrel loose in the receiver (hadn't been torqued), which he found when shooting (the groups went crazy). A rare occurrence, without a doubt, but it happened. Eventually they (HS) fixed it, but it involved shipping it back to the states twice (and my friend lives in Italy, so a real PITA). After they fixed it, it never did get groups as good as the ones it started out with. C'est la vie, I guess. - dan
 
I was in Wholesale and they had a HS rifle in 270 WSM - Left hand ultralight.

It was a nice gun but if I remember correctly it was $3800.00... OUCH!!
 
Dunnon why but they jacked up the price on the STR also, the model hasn't changed since 2000.

I'm assuming it is that high because of the left handed option.
