I don't know what it is about this rifle but I LOVE IT!! I picked up this BSA 30-06 a few days ago and I am wondering what people think about this rifle. From what I have heard they were built on a M17 Enfield receiver. It seems very heavy and a nicely built. If you could tell me a little more about it that would be great.

Also I would like to put a scope on this maybe. How would I find a mount for it? There is no exact model on it so I don't think I could go to BassPro and get a mount off the rack. Any ideas?

It's not built "off" a Mauser action,..it's built "on" an M17 Enfield action,.I had one in 270 years go, they called it a Model C Sporter. There was also a Model B, which yours might be.
Good rifle.
Not sure what mounts will fit that one, but someone here will know. I'm guessing it will take a one piece base for a Rem 700......and that is just a guess

It is an Enfield with it's ears ground down and converted to sporting rifle.

Good solid rifles that will take nearly all the abuse anyone can throw at them.

It used to look like this. Yours has a new sporter stock, barrel shortened, sporting front sight put on, wood cut and ears ground off. Many just had the original stock cut down and top wood removed.

The Model "B" is what MD described; shortened military stock.

The Model "C" is what Greyman441 pictured above. It weights 8 lbs. The bolt handle was left alone with it's "dogleg" pattern.

The Model "D" have a better finished stock, with pistol grip cap and hard rubber buttpad, both with white spacers. The bolt handle was changed to match the Mauser sporter pattern.

The Model "E" is the same as model "D" but with a thiny schnabeled fore end.

If you make a search (wich I'm too lazy to do today), you will find that I posted the Parker-Hale catalog pages (who sold the BSA sproters) a while ago.

Wish I could find a model "D" but as I have a "B" and it was free I can't complain.

That is a nice looking rifle. Definitely a hunting rifle. I have a P17 barrelled action and it is one tough hunk of metal. I would love to track down a stock like that.
