It's a Baikal IZH 18MH. The same action has been used for Baikal's indestructible single shots since forever.

This action has an internal hammer and can be worked on by any competent smith.

Barrel is hammer forged and chrome lined.

Is it a sub sub minute of angle target gun? No. Like break action rifles in general it will deliver at least MOA with good ammo. Your mileage may improve with good optics.

I've owned both the .223 and .308 versions and that was what either could do on an average range trip with the supplied iron sights.

so with a good scope and fine tuned hand loads it could be a paper cutter?

And the spartan remmies are made by baikal so id be better of buying baikal for $40 less?

I'd add a good trigger job to that list. The .223 has the best accuracy potential (IMHO) given the fairly light barrel.

I fired 55 gr factory loads in mine. Never did check the actual twist. Many mfrs use now 1/9 twists as the most useful for 45 -62 gr loads.

The Spartan guns I've seen had more consistent wood finish than the equivalent Baikal but are otherwise identical.

baikal

I have one in 222 Rem. At first it would not shoot worth a d----. I free floated the barrel (forestock) and things improved a whole bunch. I mounted a Weaver TO-10 on the dovetail and used Weaver rings. Now to try different loads. I thing the twist is 1 -12.
