I am looking around at different 1911's in 45ACP and would like some opinions if you can give them to me.

I want to pick up a 45 hoping to use it at the NSCC this coming year; last year the "clay bird" shoot consisted knocking 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 3" wood blocks off a post. I hit one 3 times with a 9mm beofre it came down; the last shot I aimed low to flip it off. One guy was using a 45 ACP and he was splitting the blocks in two.

I want one with some quality to is, but I do not want to fork out too much either. I am looking at around $850 before tax being as high as I can go. I was looking at the STI Spartan and the Taurus PT1911. Does anyone own either? If so, what are your thoughts on them? Does anyone have any other options in this price range?

Milspec springfield is nice, that is what I am shooting now. Anything other than a new kimber or any para and I think you're good.

STI Spartan is a very solid and quality built gun. I have one. Going with different brand and having same quality and features would cost you at least $300-400 more.
If you want the gun to shoot, Spartan is a very sound choice. If you want a safe queen, go with another brand of your choice, I mean if you don't shoot more than 2-3000rds a year.
