Opinions on 6.5 magnums?

After reviewing lots of load data, I've concluded that the 6.5 Remington Magnum is the most efficient 6.5 cartridge. I've owned the 6.5-06, 6.5-284 Norma and 6.5x300 Weatherby. My next gun build will either be the 280 AI or 6.5 Remington Magnum. Both are a great deer, elk and moose cartridge.

I’ve got a 6.5 RM reamer for you!

Thanks Buckmastr, but not now. I have two different gunsmiths working on a build, each at this time. I really think the 6.5 Rem. Mag. is an awesome cartridge.............most efficient of all the 6.5's. Once these two builds are complete, I'll be on the look-out for an action and a HS Precision stock. Hmmmmmm, a 125 gr. Nosler Partition would be my first choice for load development. Once again, thanks!

I tested a whack of bullets and powders and settled on the 140 NAB & NBT with RL-22... I have taken deer, bears, goats and moose with these from the 6.5 RM.

Hands down I would go 6.5-06. I like mine a lot. So simple and easy to create brass from either 270 Win or 25-06. Mine is the most accurate gun I have ever owned.

I had a hankering for a 6.5-06 but once you realize you cant find brass for it and the 6.5-284 is basically a ballistic twin with Nosler/Norma and Lapua brass available with some factory Nosler ammo available as well I just built a 6.5-284

Good point. It's nice to have the correct head stamp on one's brass. I just make sure I don't own a 270 Win or a 25-06 so there's never any confusion. Who'd want either of those anyway. :)

A-Square made brass, and there was a 6.5x64 available in Europe (RWS sells ammo and brass, or did). So it's out there, though not common. - dan

The RPM case sounds cool to me, although brass would be hard to come by. I bet it will be necked up and down like the original 284 win. Necked up to 7mm it would have more jam than a 280 AI. Probably equal to a 7mm rem. Chambered in an kimber 84L would be awesome.

YUP the only brass so far is weatherby for the 6.5 RPM and I heard ?? weatherby might do that with a series of RPM cartridges - eg : 7 RPM and 30 RPM to show up First - RJ
