Opinions on 6.5 Swede Mauser for white tail deer?

The 6.5's amazing SD with a 140 grain bullet really makes you wonder about "needing" the newest latest 7.xx or .30 Super Macaroni blah-blah magnums. Been killing things for a very long time in Europe, and I'm pretty sure their moose aren't any tougher than ours. Only other caliber that's pretty comparable I can think of for mild manners and user-friendliness is the 7mm-08, another neglected one. Now I'm thinking a 6.5-08 might be needed....hmmm. I didn't sporterize one of my Swede 96's. Cleaned it right up and shoot the heck out of it. Barrel's long enough to make even a long shot shorter!

Swede 6.5x55mm - perfect for deer

Great all round cartridge for deer and moose. Lots of hand loading data available for this round. I have an M96 original and an M96/38 short rifle, always performed consistantly for me. Did also own a Ruger 77 in this calibre for a couple of years but was offered a good price for it and I let it go. Winchester loads it commercially and if you can find it Norma factory ammo is also available.

All the best

Absolutely the finest deer caliber I have ever used. REALLY versatile if you are into handloading and the accuracy with Swedish Mausers is phenomenal. My Dad has been hunting with a 6.5 X55 since the late 1950's and I have been using one of 4 that I own for the last 28 years. I wouldn't consider switching to anything else and I have used and still do own a LOT of rifles. I can't think of one bad thing to say about the catridge or any gun that I have ever used that takes it. You can't go wrong! Buy one!
