I'm going to be buying a Savage Mark II FV, but am having difficulty choosing between the FV-SR (which has a 16.5 inch heavy barrel and a very winter glove friendly tactical bolt knob) or the normal FV (which has a 21 inch heavy barrel but a standard bolt knob). Any views on whether the extra 4.5 inches in barrel length will affect accuracy to a noticable degree? Most targets will be 50m to 75m away.

Thanks.

the FV-SR is a great little rifle, they shoot very well and come with 2 big features over the FV: oversize bolt knob and an EGW base. The fluted and threaded barrel is cool too. .22lr reaches max velocity in about 12-16" bbl length and usually shows more consistent MV at those shorter lengths. Anything past that and barrel friction begins to slow the bullet down as the powder charge runs out of steam. It sounds crazy but short fat little barrels are optimum for .22lr
