Opinions on changing the russian sks stock to tacticool

Hey guys I know there has been mixed reviews and ideas behind leaving the russian sks stock and not changing anything on it where others believe modding it to tacticool is the best option while you also have the in between who buy 2! Mod one and keep one stock.

What is everyone opinions behind changing or not and the reasons why,

I have heard changing the wood will affect the rifles performence in the field, how so let me know guys and I'm interested in purchasing one but not sure what to do as I don't want to affect the performence in any way but tacticool isn't bad hehe.

It's your rifle. I personally prefer the wood. But it's pretty much the closest you can get to an affordable NR black rifle too so I completely understand modding it. You can always keep the wood and if you don't like the tacticool stick swapping back is quick. I like the look of the Archangel stock but the rifle needs.to be removed every rime you clean it. Tapco seems to be the best option. Swapping the handgaurd can be a ##### so I'd suggest buying a complete tapco gas tube and putting the original aside with the origianl stock if you ever plan on swapping.back
 
I put the tapco on my old sks and regretted it. The stock was good and pistol grip was nice but I don't think its worth it. Its like those guys that buy a 400 dollar rifle and put a 1000 dollar scope on it. Or a spoiler on a Honda civic
 
One thing nice about tapco stock, or any other tacticool stock is the ajustment for length of pull. most of my friends have tapco stocks on their sks's because their wives and kids are all different sizes and the adjustable stock means they can all use the sks on plinking day.
 
Stock fit is everything. Must be a tight fit. A factory stock can be loose and crappy or tight and solid, same for the tacticool stocks.
Whichever way you go, stocks can be shimmed tighter.
 
Lipstick on a pig for sure, but sometimes trashy is fun. Get a second sks for the days you want to tacticool. Leave the good one for when your communist friends come by to drink vodka and talk about the revolution, comrade.

Hell ya do them up every single which way......the best part is when someone cusses ya out saying you only riced out an SKS because you were too cheap to buy an AR/ECT......

My favourite SKS of mine next to its spoiled rich ass barely related cousin haha.

Pretty obvious. There are princesses and skanks out there.
Look at the SKS you own and decide which one to tacticool for the alley and which to linseed rub for the embassy ball.
With a decent collection, you should know which beau's yo ho...

Same here. Timbersmith stock is mighty fine looking!

Although I'm quite partial to my red laminate. I don't see the point unless the LoP is totally wrong for you... even then, add a buttpad. You can reach out and touch decent groups (for what it is) at 100-200m in it's original form. As someone else mentioned... it's like a spoiler on a Civic. Sure it may look cooler but it's not going to make it work better so why bother?
 
I went half way. Sort of....
Scout scope allows me to keep my 4x and my SeeAll on separate rails, ready to go without loss of 0. Peep sight as a backup if ever its needed.
10 round xcr, I did the install an after 300+ rounds I had 1 ftf(operator error, new shooter didn't let the bolt slam home).
Bipod is there cause I have been sighting it in with the various sighting options.

I like the look of the original stock but the length of pull was way to short for me. I added two inches to it and sanded it all down to match close the original lines and painted it od green. I think it looks pretty good
 
I vote keep it as-is and just tweak it. Work on the trigger, shim up the stock and mess around with the fore-stock tension on the barrel. Extend the LOP if you can't wrap your head around how to shoot an Eastern gun... and that creates another problem that can be solved by 'upgrading' the sights because your face is to far alway from the receiver to get a proper sight picture...

Be boring and remove the bayonet...
 
A Soviet SKS in its stock form is a relic of the past, much like a Model T car, Its an interesting piece of history to own, discuss and take out to enjoy from time to time. But with a little elbow grease, you can take that Model T, possibly destroy its historical value and put a Corvette engine in it. Now that model T is a serious car; much like a properly modded SKS can be a serious gun when compared to other options on the Canadian market in its price range...
