Opinions on Colt XSE?

Well, to tell the truth it's a little late to ask now seeing as I already put a few hundred down to special order a Comander XSE .45 with a 4 1/4" bbl. but I figured I would see if anyone could tell me of good or bad experiences with these. This will be my first 1911 style pistol as well as my first non-polymer semi-auto. I checked one out while on buisness in the states, and with out really thinking much ordered one from my local shop when I got home(the wife gave me the go ahead). I have since seen a couple at other dealers, but have yet to get any opinions from anyone who has actually owned/used one. As allways any input is appreciated.

New production Colts are good guns. They are reliable and accurate and generally exhibit better quality than the guns the company used to make in the 70's and 80's. However, Colts are known for having cosmetic quirks that some people find annoying, although they don't affect the gun's functionality.

The XSE is not much different from a standard Series 80. The only differences are the ambidextrous thumb safety, "duck bill" grip safety, dovetailed front sight, Novak-style "ski ramp" rear sight, slanted slide serrations, and a full-length guide rod. Personally, I prefer the look and feel of a traditional mil-spec 1911, but that's just my preference. All in all, you've made a good choice. In my opinion, Colt still makes the best "reasonably priced" 1911 and I'd take it over the likes of Kimber and Springfield any day.

Ya, just my sad attemt to humour.:D She has never said anything about any of my purchases, rather encourages me to get what I want. Although the flip side to this is that she gets just about anything she wants as well.

Thanks again for all of your the input, I'm sure I'll be happy with it.
