Opinions on CSA VZ 58

Hey guys, I recently took a look at one of these and I really like the feel of them. I really like the fact that they're almost a fusion of an SKS and an AK, plus they can take stripper mags which is a plus. Any opinions on the reliability, accuracy and whatnot of these rifles? Also, what would they be like compares quality wise to an Armalite AR that is also in my price range? Thanks guys!
 
The AR will be more modular. Both will be reliable, but the VZ is in AK territory for reliability. 7.62x39 is cheaper than 5.56x45/.223. I'd go with the vz first.
 
I have all three of the rifles you mention, I've had the 858 has been out four times since either of the others were out.

I highly recommend getting one....light, non-restricted, cheep ammo, better trigger than the sks, lots of aftermarket parts...I always thought they were kind of ugly and just picked one up on a whim, really glad I did.
 
Get one, you won't regret it.

It's a fun rifle, reasonably accurate, lightweight, uses cheap ammo, and there ARE plenty of aftermarket parts for it should you want to mod it.

Unlike an AR (excepting Para Ordnance), it's available with a folding stock.

It comes with lots of goodies, too, and I find it just as easy to strip and clean as an AR.

So I picked one up today, wasn't able to take it home but noticed a few things. The muzzle device had a bit of wobble in it and can't bottom out and be locked in at the same time, is this normal? Also, I had the polymer FAB rail installed on it but the top rail isn't in line with the sights causing a wonky sight picture, anyway to go about fixing that? Thanks guys!
 
I have an AR and a CSA 58, I love both in different ways and for different reasons.

I have a 7.5" CSA, its so much fun and cheap to feed. (not very accurate, the sights are too close together)

I also have a 10" Norc AR, and I love it. Its smooth, reliable, accurate, and a fun to shoot.

If I were you I would buy the CSA first because it is so cheap to feed and you have the benefit of buying non-restricted. You can still accesorize it as well. I think its a bad ass rifle and I don't think I could ever part ways with either of my rifles.

The muzzle device having a bit of wobble is normal for the VZ as it is indexed to the muzzle not with a crush washer, but with a plunger that fits in to indents on the muzzle device. I prefer a crush washer as it is (IMHO) more secure, but it requires tools to remove, whereas the muzzle device on the VZ does not require tools to remove.
 
i have both cz 858..and csa vz 58.....i love them both. cheap to shoot, good accuracy...and totally reliable.

as far as difference between ar platform and the 58......58 waay cheaper, 58 waay more reliable (will function dirty), 7.62 ammo is cheaper than 5.56..and harder hitting (can hunt with it)....also the tapered casing of the 7.62 round feeds more reliably than straight walled case of 5.56.

biggest difference between ar and 58..........58 is non-restricted :)
