Opinions on good action for 300 H&H project

Had a pre-64 M70 in 300H&H that POAckley re-barreled , sold it in a moment of weakness to a lucky fellow on here.
To fund a double rifle...I miss it !

That was sound logic, if you ask me- you can sleep well, a double is twice the rifle at a dozen times the price. And price is just a collection of made up numbers, two barrels is for real!

Just took a look at their website and the 1999 action definitely looks promising. I wonder why you don't see them used much? They seem to have all the right features. And the fact that they're $750 for CM or $800 for stainless isn't too bad either.

I have one for 30-06 build and I love it; no issues whatsoever with it.

I'm glad I found your thread as I have been thinking/obsessing of a 300 H&H build as well since a family friend told me about it. I love the whole 'African safari / Holland and Holland' thing about it.

My only hestitation is I don't reload and commercial ammo doesn't seem all that readily available.

I can't believe no one has suggested an old Sako, anything from the L61R to the A V, long enough from the get go and super slick and a very aesthetically pleasing action. Not too super pricey and they hold 4 belted cases under and are all steel....no plastic anywhere. I also just looked at my Supergrade 30-06 and it would be an easy rechamber and open the rails a bit at the back. the action is long enough as I made a 340 on one a couple years back.
You have to be careful BO56, as the 300 H&H may not hold down under the rails of an action set up for a Wby or even 300 WM, the rails may be too wide at the front to properly hold the cartridges down. That's why I would be very tempted to start with a Win/FN Supergrade 30-06 or a Sako 30-06 (both come with 24" barrels as well) and just rechamber and open the bolt face (very easy on either of these rifles) and then custom work the rails until you get perfect holding and feeding. Just my $.02

Appreciate the advice on that C-FBMI. I had not thought of that, so out of curiosity I just put five 300 H&H rounds in my CZ 550 in 458wm to see if they would stay down. They stayed in nice and tight and feed flawlessly. Other actions may be different though. None the less I have a few more options to look for now.

I haven't done a 300 H&H there BO56, just playing devil's advocate but in some actions I think it may be a problem. Best to do exactly what you have done and see how they sit and feed before relegating a donor and doing work for naught.

I recently bought a Weatherby Vanguard action and stock from Rembo here. It is going to become either a 300 H&H or a 340 Weatherby.

The magazine is already the correct length, the bolt face right, and I expwect it will feed as well as the SAKO. :)
