i know there cheap but are they reliable. i'm not looking for a fine hunting shotgun. more of a defensive gun able to use buck and slugs close range. any good or should i be looking at say a mossberg. opinions please.

They seem like a nice gun. I shouldered a MarineGuard pump and it felt quite sturdy.
never fired one though.

MY difficulty is finding a gun dealer online that has them in stock. In fact I'm finding it harder and harder to find online dealers that have ANY of the guns they show on their websites actually "in stock".

The last 3 firearms I have ordered online, have turned out to be "oh, sorry, sold out", lol, although they were shown as available on the site. Yes, I DO realize that it takes some effort to keep a website updated. But for some reason, OTHER industries, e.g. music stores, motorcycles and parts etc etc seem to be able to do it.

But I have never seen so many guns, that when you look closer, you see "no stock". It's actually began to take the fun right out of online shopping for firearms for me...

So, the last time, a few days ago, I called ahead to make sure the Hatsan I wanted WAS in stock. It was, I was told. I ordered it, paid up...sure enough, 3 days later I get an email: "oops, not in stock".

WTF?

I have a Marine Guard Escort Pump, Fired 125 rounds as fast as I could and it performed perfectly. The only down side is I can't seem to find any compatible accessories, but it did come with a pistol grip.

I had that same model pictured and fit and finish was excellent. I only put about 100 rounds through it, but did so without a single stoppage. My only complaints would be the lack of accessories, and soldered front bead.

I love the Marine Guard, except...I don't think you can swap the barrel on these shotguns, can you? I don"t see and "combo" deals...except, the Hatsan Slug Barrel Combo...which I am trying to find.

I want to be able to put a longer barrel on, that fits chokes, and use it for skeet/hunting etc.

Then mount a scope and a slug barrel, and have at some range targets! The Marine Guard has a 3/8" dovetail (like a rimfire or airrifle, It's no coincidence that Hatsan makes world-renowned air rifles as well.) But the Combo has a "cantilevered rail", 22mm Weaver, and I have lots of goodies that fit that...

It's hard to get the EXACT firearm we want, innit?

There IS a Marine Guard with, I think, a 26" barrel, or 28" as well as the 18.5"...but I don't think it just swaps with the 18.5, does anybody know?

That would be my perfect shotgun, right there. ..IF it had the Weaver rail on the slug barrel, and still has "rifle" sights on the smooth bore long barrel.

And, of course, the impossible to find tubular magazine extender like the Marine Guard.

Now I wish I had one hahahaha....d*mn you, guns!!

There is another combo in the semi-automatic series called Escort Camo Combo. It comes with a 28" waterfowler barrel and a 23" turkey barrel. Also, six chokes total (F,IM,M,IC,CYL and Turkey). There is also a pump action combo which comes with a waterfowler barrel and a rifled slug barrel. Clearly there is a precedent for swap-able barrels as there are the slug combos as you mentioned..

Yes, I spoke with a Hatsan distributor today, and he said the barrels can be swapped, it's just near impossible to purchase them seperately...he cannot. There are the 2-3 combo sets available, that yopu mentioned, and that's it. There is no "MarineGuard" nickle finish Combo, sadly.

And so I think I will wait patiently for this mythical container to arrive from Turkey with my Combo on it! It's a smooth-barrel slub barrel as well, which I prefer....well, it's cheaper anyway. He mentioned the rifled barrel that you did as well.

Boy, the Hatsan site has plenty of goodies on it, just not for sale!
