I'm interested in getting into reloading shotshells but I'm tight on cash. The Lee load-all for $60 from S.I.R. seems like a great deal and almost too good to be true. Anyone out there have one? Likes or dislikes. My other choice would be a MEC 5 for about $150. Is the Lee good for a beginner?

Thanks,
Ace

I've loaded hundreds of shells on one of those - they work absolutely fine. I'm not a high volume skeet shooter, but I did lots of waterfowl loads when lead was okay, and also loaded for clays. But you can get a case of target shells for like $43 now, and you can't hardly beat that price.

Are you going to load steel?

You get what you pay for. The MEC is a superior unit for loading shells compared to the Lee and is worth the extra money. I have a MEC JR that I starting loading on years ago before going with a MEC progressive. I still keep the JR around for load experimentation.

Check around at on the used market. The single-stage MECs come up for sale pretty often and can be had for not much more than a used Lee.
