Looking at getting a "budget" 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge and this one looked pretty nice, not really any difference for me from the 835, other than the 535 can shoot slugs too. Has anyone used these themselves that could shed some light on the overall feel and performance out of this "budget" gun?

Thanks in advance.

I just got the black/black synthetic waterfoul 535 ATS from SIR (Not the 2 barrel wood/deer combo) and have fired both slugs and shot.

What can I say? It's as accurate as I expect from a scatter (splatter?) gun. Really easy to take apart, it comes with a recoil pad, 3 chokes, cable lock and was cheap as borscht. It's my first pump (I have an auto 5) but from all my research Mossberg knows shotguns. I'm going to try duck hunting this fall which is why I got it.

My only two observations... The safety is really stiff and the pump has slight rotational play but I don't really have anything to say positive or negative about this. I believe that Mossberg makes everything to mil-spec standards so presumably some play is desirable so that it works everytime.

So... I'm very pleased with it. It doesn't look or feel cheap. PM me if you have specific questions.

Well since no-one really hates this piece, I'll probably pick one up from my local shop, got a price of around $350.00 for the black and synthetic. a bit more than some of the mail order, but I get local service and I know who I'm dealing with....

Thanks a lot for the input
Have a nice day.

I have a 22" 535 camo.....I LOVE it! Seriously...I shoot it for turkey, waterfowl, and as any members of the Orillia club will confirm....trap, skeet, and sporting clays :D

I wanted a gun just to take out for ducks that I could beat to hell and not feel guilty, but I've become quite fond of it. The stock feels cheap (compared to a wooden one) but the gun just points/cycles/fires so nicely.

Buy it!
