Opinions on SVT-40 despite increased prices?

I'm thinking of picking up an SVT rifle, would make chronological sense since I already have a Mosin and would simplify ammo purchases.

I know SVTs used to be very cheap compared to now (like 300$), would it still be worth it to pick one up despite the 650-700$ price tag?

Also, how accurate are these rifles, 3-6 moa?

Mine will shoot 2 to 3 moa. Sniper model, side grooves plus top cut out. Didn't come with scope. They are good and fun to shoot. Harder on brass then Mosin. One thing I've learned wait to long and you feel like kicking yourself when price goes higher.

Maybe as a safe queen. I remember being on the fence when they'd go on sale for $200. 91-30 was less than a hundred and sks was $129.
If you're really into the nostalgia of them, get a nice one. The value won't go down if you decide to sell it. I wouldn't buy one to shoot these days. The ammo is pretty much all corrosive and getting harder to find. If you're easily satisfied as far as accuracy goes, then it might be fun for a little while, but 6" groups get old fast.

Don't hesitate just get one,

And don't be scared to put an ad in the local buy and sell looking for one you may find someone that's unsure of what they have and would sell for close to what they paid for back in the cheap days etc..

get a super clean rifle and keep as a collector and if you want a used rifle with a less then pristine look for a shooter lol.

I have a few of them and they are awesome absolutely love the old school look.

I paid 525 in 2007 for my 1941 izhevsk when they first started showing up. I wanted one since i was in grade school in Ukraine and could not conseive or even imagin at that time in 1987 that i would be ever owning or shooting one for real.
My rifle has perfect bore and shoot 3 inches at 100 yards constantly. Its best 600 bucks i ever spent and would do it again for such rifle.
Svt 40 is amazing rifle and it is not overly expensive even now, but coolness factor and fun at the range is overwhelming.
Get one as soon as possible, you won't regret it.

In the US. where new imports dried up ages ago, they go for $1200+ for a beater. They're fun guns to shoot, that muzzle brake can give the .50 cal guys a flinch, accuracy is "minute of nazi" out to 400 yards or so...

I expect the value to keep climbing up here, now that the supply is drying up. I wish I'd bought more than one, back in the day when they were still cheap, but I'm glad I have it, and still shoot it. No reason not to shoot it. If you maintain it, it will last.

The first time I shot one , maybe 20 yrs ago, I could not believe the "CaBoom" from the break, course 20ysrs ago who put muffs on to try a rifle?
Hy-what was that? I can't hear you .

Best rifle... like a Cuban cigar compared to Canadian brands.

Also it was one of the favourite rifles of Saddam Hussein... and we all know how tough he was. Honestly how many times can you bring people to the range and say this rifle was likely used in the defence of Moscow or likely used in the Crimean campaign etc... they are an essential fun and investment rifle with some interesting historical significance.
They will be priced like M1's one day especially if no new imports come in.

Im running out of space, and i've been thinking of selling mine....i don't find it as fun to shoot as my others.... but as far as historical and just plain basassary of this beast is incredible....can't decide !!! what to do ... but you should get one if you can....they are awesome

If you want an svt 40 your best bet is to just get one at the current pricing as they most likely won't get cheaper

I have been hesitant on a Finn mosin and a k 31 due to the current costs but finally just said screw it I better get one and pay the price otherwise I won't ever get them.

There isnt anything as loud and cool out there thats as powerful and cheap to shoot as an svt-40. Like most other things the prices can only go up for these.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'll likely get one in early january or sooner, I'll see!

For those who mentioned their MOAs with their SVTs, were they sniper models or just regular rifles? With or without optics?
