I think these were Japanese made scopes. How does the quality of the glass, sharpness and brightness compare to say the Bushnell 4200 and Leupolds? Any comments on repeatability and durability? Do you consider them a decent scope for their reasonable price?

I know that, once upon a time, Tasco was quite capable of making excellent optics. However, technology marches on, and even the best scopes of the previous decades have been eclipsed in quality, even as prices (inflation adjusted) go down (or at least stay the same as featureset and quality go up)

Hi Ted
The custom shop scopes were some of tasco best products they were built by Hakko when they were in Japan. very decent quailty. The reports i heard were that both the 8-40x50 and the 10-60x50 lost resolution at the top end of the power range. clicks were positive and repeatable which says alot for tasco because todays WORLD CLASS models have something to be desired. typically they go on ebay for $250 $300 range. check out RIMFIRECENTRAL.com they have a scope section were you can read quite a bit about the custom models. OVER all very good scope. Not sure how much recoil they can take from the big mags if that is your intention.

I think it was 6 or 7 years ago that they changed factories and the glass quality went down. If you could find one of the older scopes you should be able to get a good deal. I have an 8-40x56 that I bought before they changed but I have plans for that scope.
