opinions on the CF98

Lever Arms sells the CF98. I think the one distinction about this particular gun is that it is a Chinese military and police issue gun. It's not a civilian, export quality knock-off. In theory, they might apply higher standards of fit and finish to issue arms. Never seen one myself, though.

I havnt seen any comment either good or bad on those:confused: . I'd hate to be the first guy to shell out $600 only to find that its far below expectation:eek: . I have a few Norc's and so far I have been pleased but I dont think theres anything that justifies that kind of price tag...

I have the Norinco M77B, it is quite nicely machined and very well put together. I do think that they spend a little more time making sure thier issue guns are built well. Some of their export stuff, esp. their earlier copies are machined quite poorly. Anything made within the last 2-3 years has been looking better and better. I have a recent production 1911 frame from them that I used for a custom build and am very happy with it. If I do not tell people it is a Norinco frame no one guesses that it is. I also handled their P228 copy last year and was quite surprised as the fit and finish, it was much better than a P228 copy from 4 years ago. Norinco does have a learning curve, as evidenced by the M14 rifles they sell, which are head and shoulders above the ones they were selling in the early 90's.

The CF98 should be built to quite high standards (as their new sidearm) and looks like it will be a nice pistol. Question is, do you want to spend 600 bucks on it? If Lever Arms had Marstar's return policy I would try it out and if it looks like crap and feels gritty I would just return it and be a little bit wiser.

I saw one at lever in the display case. It looked pretty good. The lever arms clerk tho insisted it's not a Norinco when I asked about "That Norinco PLA service pistol". It also didn't have the export Norinco logo on the side it had a star. Next time I go there i'm gonna see if I can feel it up and grope it a bit......and then say dirty things to it.

If it is high qualaity, then $600 isn't bad, but it does go against the grain to pay that much if it used Chinese army tires for handgrips.

What did you mean the Lever arms guy claimed it wasn't a Norinco? I am seriouly wondering about these guys emotional stability of late. It is listed as a Norinco on the phriken web site.
