Opinions on the Norinco 5.56/.223 ammo

Hi all,

I'm getting back to playing with AR-15s and I'm curious what people think of the norinco stuff (spam cans)? I used to use federal .223 years ago but not likely to find any of that these days...:(

I'm not looking for super accuracy, just reliability.

works great as "throw away" ammo, the brass is garbage i've had a split body and several split necks, i'd say 50% of the once fired brass has such loose primer pockets that you can shake the primers out, I used to save this brass for reloading now I find myself sorting it out of my brass bucket, I don't even give it a chance anymore. ymmv
for the price as factory ammo it's tough to beat, i'll still continue to buy it but if you want to buy it to reload it, i'd personaly pass on it.
 
I would get the Federal AE stuff it is about 40 cents a round. To me, Norinco mouldy ammo with corrosion all over it isn't my jam. I know it goes bang and I know it shoots about 6MOA. To me accuracy is still somewhat important and the brass is great for reloading. Some people are happy with the price and to each their own. There Hornady match steel and winchester white box are also good picks or PMC.

There are other options besides CHICOM ammo.
 
I have shot 1000's of rounds of norinco. I have never had a misfire. I have found it to be decent accurate. More accurate than 5.56 made in many other countries. I have reloading many of the cases for many more times than I probably should. Have I ever had a split case? Yep, after about the fifth time I reloaded it. I have no issues with this ammo other than it is dirty.
 
It is okay but seems like it is only possible to find Norc and MFS lately. Gagnon brought in some nice Lake City a while ago. Not sure why PMC is so hard to come by after all it is made in Korea. I would like to think there are people out there who want something other than the chinese ammo.
 
Thanks for all the input guys. I think I'll get get a one of the spam cans to play around with. Hopefully some of the AE stuff will appear in bulk at some point. I have a little bit of the good stuff stashed away from previous years so maybe I will treat the new AR upper to some quality ammo before send the norinco through. I would love to reload but I don't have the facilities or space for a set up at the moment.
