Opinions on the Px4 Storm

I'm not waiting...I'm well aware of what they do after 20,000 rounds.

700 rounds definitely "a few". For me that's what I would describe as "function testing". Does it actually run? Okay, yes, it feeds, fires, and extracts. 1000 is the minimum number of rounds I use to determine if a gun is operating normally.

To actually evaluate a design, I would say a few tens of thousands is about right. That is exactly why I don't do evaluative testing myself...I stay in touch with people doing institutional testing for big LE and military organizations, because they do see tens of thousands of rounds through guns, and know what happens when the gun gets some wear on it.

There's build quality and there's build quality...there's "we didn't totally f**k up the machining" which you can see right off the bat. True build quality is something you learn down the road...when the gun has 50,000 rounds and still works. Or doesn't.

I am not going to argue to what you know or seem to know... And I agree that build quality and reliability will be determined down the road but once again, combined with my 700 rounds and from what I read from official sources and articles such as this:

""Extensive International Testing Proves The Beretta PX4 Storm To Be Exceptionally Durable And Reliable

Accokeek, Maryland — Beretta announces receipt of documentation from the Italian 'Banco di Prova' that three Beretta PX4 Storm pistols had 30,000 rounds (10,000 per pistol) fired through them with ZERO defects during a specialized ballistic test conducted on behalf of the German State Police. The Italian Banco di Prova, an Italian proof house that oversees and certifies testing for firearms, did the actual testing last month.

This independent testing is further proof of how the Px4 Storm series of pistols truly represents the next generation of handguns, providing a new threshold of durability and reliability for the Law Enforcement and Defense communities.

"The Px4 Storm not only offers Law Enforcement professionals incredible versatility by allowing the operator to fit the gun to his or her hands through any combination of backstraps, controls size and location, actions and calibers, but this pistol offers unprecedented reliability and durability regardless of the Law Enforcement operator and conditions," stated Matteo Recanatini, Marketing Manager, LE/Defense Division. "While we are very pleased with the results of the international testing, we are not surprised by them. This is a very reliable firearm."

Beretta, established in 1526, is the oldest industrial dynasty in the world, tracing its roots through 16 generations of continuous family ownership. Firearms bearing the Beretta name have been sold for almost 500 years. Beretta USA Corp. was founded in 1977 and supplies the standard sidearm to the U.S. Armed Forces. Today Beretta manufactures, distributes and markets a complete line of firearms, accessories and apparel. Beretta also owns and operates six retail Beretta Gallery stores worldwide. I am quite happy and confident with such reports.... And unlike what you guys think of the gun, I disagree. I bought my first Beretta in 1983 and since then I have learned to trust the brand.

Jackspade I am happy you like your CX4. From reading the infomercial you posted I am surprised Glock and S&W are still in business. If I saw the guns replacing CZ Shadows in IPSC Production or Glocks and M&Ps in IDPA SSP Division I guess I might be inclined to say the Government was on to something when they went with the CX4 but alas I dont see that happening.

Long heavy trigger pulls arent all that attractive to me but if they float your boat and work for you then by all means.

It would nice to hear from some of the Border employees on how they make out during their Qualification shoots with the gun.

Take Care

Never had an issue with the one I've been carrying the past few years or the one I own personally. I know some people have had issues but then again these guns get banged around quite a bit searching trucks, ships and jammed in and out of small gun lockers 2x a day. None of my personal handguns that I pay for have the dings that my duty firearm gets. It wouldn't be my first choice which would be a Sig 229, S&W M&P o rHK P2000 in .40 instead of 9mm but I have no reservations about it working if and when I need it.

I've got a bit over 4k rounds through my Storm.

I like the grip, the sights are just OK and the trigger is horrible in DA.

The slide finish is fragile. They get marked up easy.

I have had zero issues with reliability with mine.

In a nutshell if you like them buy one, but I do think there are better pistols out there for the same money.

Well, I'm definitely glad that the marketing manager for Beretta thinks that the current Beretta is worth recommending to people.

Funny how that works huh? lol

The only thing that I found worse than the Px4 is the Sig P250.

I think I'd prefer a sharp stick to either of them. And if one was offered to me for free, I'd take a pass.

I paid $1000 for my model D three years ago, even at $750 that's too much. I paid $619 + tax for my M&P and $504 for a Glock 17 + tax both new. Noth better guns.

If you could find me a Glock for that price new, I'd buy it and send you a bottle of Knob Creek and two premium steaks!

I'd imagine that price is either old or some crazy promotion, but I see the PX4 for about 50 bucks more than the Glock.

I have a hard time believing the PX4 is not a durable, reliable gun. How would Beretta go from designing the 92FS, with a damn fine track record, to a disaster? I don't see that.

I'd be curious to read about what happened during CBSA training though.

Excellent but they'd have to be Alberta steaks!

Police Ordnance- Glocks start at $504 for those who qualify. <--- still current.

How do I qualify for that discount? (I'm not LEO or Mil, sadly :( ) I can't seem to find civilian prices on their site.
If I pick one up at that site, you're gettin something in the mail.

Whats up with all the Px4 haters on this board?

I'm not a fan of the looks and think they are a bit expensive in Canada, but I don't believe for a second that they are crap or not as good quality wise as M&P or Gock.

Have Type C's ever been for sale in Canada? I haven't seen one and I would think that would be a decent option and more comparable to a glock or m&p. It's cheaper than the other PX4's and does away with the safety/decocker and supposedly, the long double action pull. The description is double action but I think its supposed to be more like a walther P99QA? I wouldn't mind trying one but I don't think I'll ever see one.

I quite like the look/style and have shot thousands of rounds through mine.

Having said that I'm thinking of trading mine in for another P99. One because I want all my pistols to have ambi slide locks, but primarily because I have issue with the safety on a quick draw from a holster. It seems too cumbersome for me, pushing the safety up. It makes me tilt the gun sideways and I always want to verify visually that I've done it, particularly if I'm wearing gloves.

If it is a given you must be armed for your job, only shoot it when you qualify and work in an area where you are not ever likely going to use it in anger and it goes from your locker to your hip and back to your locker then I think it may just be the perfect pistol for the job at hand. Now if there was any chance of having to use it in a stressful situation I might have different thoughts.

Given the heavy DA trigger pull, a manual safety that intuitively is backwards , costs almost the double the price of comparable guns, a not so hot finish and a less than stellar testing background and is not seen frequently, if ever, at IDPA/IPSC matches I just don't see the attraction for a civilian shooter.

What am I missing? Wicked Police you have tested this boomstick is there anything else.

Take Care

Bob

I think you got it all. Oh, mags split at the weld as well. Might not be an issue with 10rd mags, but who knows...

I've never seen one at a range, at a match, plinking, ever, unless there were CBSA people training.

Forgot about the mags, don't drop them on a hard surface or they won't want to feed well. Very cheap metal. But I will say their look has grown on me.
