Opinions on the Robinson Arms XCR

Whenever my XCR arrives I'm know myself, I'll be getting to work on load development pretty quick. I've got Hornady 55gr VMAX, and some 69gr SMKs that I'd like to try. The only powder I use is Varget (although I have a few pounds of H4895 I'm too lazy to swap out different powders to load for different guns). Brass will likely be Winchester and primers will be CCI BR4s.

Ideally I'd be using my Sightron SIII 6-24x50 but I don't have rings anywhere near high enough to mount it. Not sure what I'm going to do. I have yet to buy optics for this rifle in any case.

Here's my XCR-M. Just installed the Magpul MIAD grip but I think it needs a wedge insert to fit properly...

I have an XCR-L and I like it a lot. It runs flawlessly. However, I did have some troubles with it. Originally it was a 7.62x39, but I bought a .223 conversion kit for it. I found that surplus 7.62x39 stuck in the chamber and I had to have the gas setting on 4 to eject reliably. Even though, every now and again I would have a FTE and would have to mortar the gun.

With my .223, I had troubles feeding from LAR15 mags. However, these were the mags and not the gun. I measured the width of the teeth on a pmag and the LAR15s and found that the teeth on the LAR15s were wider. I took a mallet to the LARs and gently hammered the teeth closer together, Since then feeding has been like butter.

I'm also sorry to report that my .223 bolt failed after 1600 rounds. It wore prematurely and would bind in the bolt carrier upon last round ejecting. This happened after warranty expiration so I had to buy a new one ($200).

So my opinion of the XCR is that its a good gun and a good design. However I feel that RA's quality assurance is kind of crappy. If you get a working gun, it will work good. But there's a higher probability that you might have a problem and might have to replace or repair under warranty.

Just recently got my xcr-l from wanstalls. I have put about 400 rounds through it now trouble free. Made some reloads for it and i believe im getting around 1.5-2 inch groups at the moment. The gun most likely out shoots me right now. The only problem i have had is that the left hand mag release was faulty and some mags would not stay in the magwell. When i figured out the problem i emailed RA and they emailed me back, took my address down and shipped me a new part immediately. Other than that so far its been an amazing gun and i recommend it highly.
