I have the opportunity to purchase a used savage 10 FP with a choate stock. The rifle is chambered in .308
I want to know if this rifle would be worth it for under $500. I'm looking for something to get into some longer range shooting 500-1000 yards and was wondering if this would be a good starter. If it didn't shoot well I would most likely order a Shilen barrel from mystic precision.
Opinions please.

.....anyways the guy I sold it was making single odd shaped hole with reloads. I liked the Choate stock for shooting that range or over a gopher patch. It would have been quite heavy for walking though.
