Opinions on the savage model 25 light weight varmint

I just sold a brand new 25 Walking Varminter in .223. I really liked the gun but the length of pull was way too long for me with my winter hunting clothes on and was almost impossible to change on that model synthetic stock. The Lightweight with the wood stock might have been a keeper but was almost 2# heavier and I wanted a light gun. I finally bought a Stevens in .223 and modified the LOP on that stock easily and am only 1.2# heavier than the Walking Varminter.

I like mine, accurate at 320yrds, I havnt tried it any further then that except at running coyotes lol. Mines the laminated stock, but pretty much the same. It is heavy but i do use a bipod. The only things I dont like is the plastic magazine and plastic trigger guard.

i bought mine new in .223, really end heavy, put a bipod on it and changed it out to a boys stock from the flimy composite, accurate shooter, used it in some long range target.

I have the medium barrel with thumbhole in .204.

I really like it, yes it is heavy but I'm young and in shape. The bolt is a tad rough but for a $600 rifle I do not believe you can get any more accurate (I hand load). I have really thought about buying another in .22-250 for a little more stopping power on the coyotes.

Cheers

I have the thumbhole stock version in .223
it is heavy but accurate when shooting from a bi-pod
My only complaint is the gloss finish barrel on mine. Not ideal for concealment when hunting yotes. I believe the newer models are matte
The rifle easily holds 1 MOA
The mags are cheap plastic but seem to work. I really didn't understand Savage on that one considering mags for the axis are metal.

IMHO it is a great choice in a .223 bolt rifle

Pretty much the same as everyone has said, a nice accurate rifle. Depending what you want to do with it, the nicer looking laminate stock with heavy barrel version is more of a range bench rifle, whereas the noticeably lighter, black plastic stock with the regular barrel version would likely be better suited to carrying in the field.

I went into our local fun shop with full intentions of buying the model 25, but I decided to go with the model 11 instead.
Thanks again for the advice and I agree on the bolt, probably what changed my mind about the 25.
