I have a RIA STK100 and I would like to put a red do on it. Seems that they are made for the Vortex Venom.

1) Have any of you put this combo together ?
2) Any mounting issues ?
3) Opinions on the Vortex venom

Thanks in advance for all the info.

You will get a lot of differing opinions on Vortex. Some folks will not touch them and some love the lifetime warranty and have no problem with them. I have two personally that have been mounted on my pistols for a couple of years now. I shoot quite a bit, compete and I’m not really easy on my equipment. My wife also has two Venoms, of the four we own all have been dependable and problem free in every type of weather condition. In the circles I shoot in, some of my close buddies who are very high volume shooters also run nothing but Venoms. A few have had problems over the past few years but have always been taken care of immediately by Vortex, they are an excellent company to deal with. Every Venom we have has held zero for years, I absolutely realize there are superior pistol optics out there but dollar for dollar I don’t think you can go wrong with a Venom.

VV is outdated.

1x23mm Mini Reflex Sight – 3 MOA Dot
The RS-10 embodies the core principles of SLx, bringing unmistakable value and innovation along with relentless field testing. Over the past year, the RS-10 has survived over 23,000 rounds, including mostly pistol-fired .45 ACP. Since we designed this optic in-house, we demanded that it be the most trustworthy mini reflex sight at its price point. After thousands of rounds from a SCAR-17—and 0 critical failures—we’re confident the RS-10 will exceed all expectations.

I have one on both of my IPSC competition pistols. Thousands of 9mm on one of them and a few hundred on the other. I like the top load battery compartment, but be careful when screwing the cap back on as it is aluminum and easy to cross thread. I found the mount screws it came with not long enough, so I just used longer ones from my screw kit. My dot disappeared once during a stage, but I am 99% sure it was because I hit the down brightness arrow switch on the side (which turns the dot off) when I did an overhand rack of the slide. If I didn't like and trust the Venom, it would have been replaced.

I have run both, venom and viper, Had one battery connection get poor, new one was sent fast.
The Venom lived on my 1911 slide in 45. It was a 6mm dot
If I was just shooting bullseye, I would rather have the 3 mm dot, 6 is good for pistol ranges at speed matches.
You can set it for auto brightness, or set it for manual, and turn it down, better for indoors , for me on paper.

Edit to this: Had one of them shut off repeatedly. Replaced battery twice, mounted it on another pistol & the problem persisted. Sent to Vortex and they replaced it with a new one in short order. I suspect it was the battery connections, same as marshall mentioned.

As this is open again , I will add, the battery problem was when it was almost new, and the replacement is 100% I never shot many 1000's of rounds with it but maybe 1-2 K
Mounted on slide with a plate , worked great.
The other was on a 9mm Canik I really liked that one, friend has it now. Should have bought more of them
The Viper battery is in the bottom, bit of a pain, but still a real nice sight.
I have not used any of the real top notch ones as I don't shoot enough to need it at my age and for small dealers/ smiths ,they are easy to deal with.
