Opinions on WBY Vanguard series 2 (On sale)

Are you about done with all your histrionics? Feel free to respectfully disagree, but with your screaming capital letters and exclamation points, you sound foolish.

As others have pointed out, with a stout bonded bullet or a monolithic, and as I stated originally, with proper shot placement, the .270 is more than adequate for "just about" any game in NA. Did I say "all"? No, I did not.

As for my "rhetoric" and your knee jerk assumptions, again, you sound foolish.

While I understand your argument you also have to look at specifically targeting game. If I hold my shots to under 20 yds the 22lr may be appropriate. If you're only taking broadside shots to 300 maybe a 243. Personally I want to be able to take any shot out to 400 on elk and moose. I would rather take a broadside but I've thought I was taking them before and they were 1/8 towards. There is never too much gun. That's why we all argue with whether a cartridge is powerful enough. There are will do cartridges and may do.

I've been searching the net (All forum sponsors included) for a scope and i think I'm leaning towards Vortex DBK-04-BDC Diamondback 4-12x40 at 269$ and free shipping. It has no Parallax adjustment though is this all that important? Grouse river has Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x40 AO Riflescope Which does have parallax adjustment but is a step down from Daimondback for 299$. My only other scope doesn't either but its a leupold 2-7x33 so it didn't matter anyway. Also Amazon has no minox scope in stock. They all say "order now and we'll deliver when available"

I think I took the last 3-9x50 tonight. Just to add if you're shooting a heavy hitter the minox has fantastic eye relief. For hunting large game parallax adjustment is not necessary as far as I'm concerned. At least for "normal" ranges. I do like it when shooting beaver close up so I can actually focus at close range. I have no experience with the vortex other than looking through a 6-24 that I did not find worth 800 more than a tasco. Maybe it's just my eyes. Great warranty on the vortex. Other brands are giving the same warranty these days. Bushnell, I think burris and minox. I'm sure there are others. Maybe some other guys will chime in on whether or not they prefer ao for hunting scopes.

If you are in the scope market, make sure you know where it's made....
China---Avoid.
Korea---bare minimum entry level, rimfire quality stuff.
Philippines---getting better, but keep it under $500, much better value in the next category over $500.
Japan/USA/EU---just better in every area when it comes to rifle scopes.
Now I'm only talking true hunting scopes, the plain jane stuff with no batteries, no fancy reticles, just great clear glass in a good solid body that won't let you down.

A Vanguard in .300 Win has been my go-to rifle for about 16 years. Darn good quality rifle, superior to the Rem. 700s, IMHO.

Mine came to me very slightly used with original wood stock, along with the built in pressure point at the end of the forearm. On a good day, it would shoot about 3" groups.

I replaced the stock with a synthetic from Pacific Research, which floated the barrel. My first sight in group was 5/8". I currently use Federal Premium 130 gr. Barnes TTSX (no longer available, darn it!), which it consistently puts into 1/2" three shot groups at 100 yds.

The rifle is made by Howa in Japan, with the bolt dressed up a tad for Weatherby. Good guns, usually can't go wrong with 'em.

Aren't they supposed to charge the PST when they ship to Quebec(or BC for that matter)? Then the funds get passed to your provincial government? Seems like much less of a hassle than filling out the forms and paying the tax afterwards like I'm sure all of us law abiding gun owners do. ;)

If you have a business tax number then you charge the GST, GST/PST or HST as applicable to the address of the purchaser.

Technically you can refuse to pay the taxes at the time of purchase "anytime/anywhere".

In that case we simply record enough information to pass off to the tax office and they can come after you at a later date (if the purchaser won't provide what we need in that case, then we simply void the puchase and direct them to shop elsewhere - the only way we get credited/write off the GST/PST we pay as a business on the purchase of the goods is charge it out the other end or show that the buyer was otherwise tax exempt).

It works pretty much the same as the forms we fill out for First Nations with their tax exempt cards - at the end of the day, unless you are exempt or have your own tax number, you are going to pay if you are dealing with a retailer/seller that has a business tax number.

So if you don't like the system contact your elected officials at the Provincial or Federal level - the vendor often doesn't have the "option".

Excellent choice the Vanguards are! Mine is in 243 Win. (Series 2). Sub-MOA with most factory loads (hornady and federal really work well in my rifle) and my own handloads are always sub MOA. Fit and finish is very good. I changed out my stock for a Hogue. This has worked out very well! In fact my avatar photo is a group with my Vanguard. Enjoy that rifle. The 270 Win is a great all around caliber that with good bullet selection would certainly meet most if not all your typical needs. Happy shooting!
