I know that its user specific but i would like to know peoples opinions. Im thinking about getting a Glock 21 ( i do have large hands). What do you have and what problems or lack of have you found with your particular choice of .45

After years of try this and that, I found a 1911 in .45 is a must, I am now settle on Glock and 1911, all others really doesn't matter. If you like plastic gun, then the USP .45 is a very nice gun too.

I have owned a Glock 21 and it fit my hands nicely (I dont' have large hands), but after holding a 1911, that felt right so I sold the Glock and bought an H&K SL8..... :D

(I now own the 1911 Colt as well)

The best combat handgun ever made is the sig p220 period. Barreta makes a nice one that comes in a Pelican case, forget the number, HK usp is great, have a match, 1911 (over 100 manufactures have made this platform, must be good) but the absolute best is a West German made sig P220. I don't own one yet, do own hk but looking for the sig

Sadly most of the Sig that we can buy here were made in the State.

sounds to me like he wants polymer

springfield xd45 is a nice polymer striker fired pistol i prefer the grips on it over the glock, trigger is nice for what it is aswell

the xdm45 looks nice also

Maybe just me, but I didn't enjoy shooting the Glock 21, I found the snappiness of the .45 ACP really vibrated through the polymer grip and stung my hands after a while. I really like Glocks and have a G17, just didn't like the G21. I'm probably not a good resource though, since I haven't shot much .45. Just my $.02

The S&W M&P 45 and the HK 45 are probably the two best out-of-the box .45s on the market.

Nope not just a polymer guy. I have a Glock 17, Beretta 92FS, S&W 629 44mag, and a Ruger GP-100 357 mag. Just want to add a good 45 to my collection, the reason i said Glock 21 is i like that 10 round mags. I have heard good things about the HK though, how its very accurate out of the box, provided the shooter is lol. I like the look of the Colt Government that Wild west has for sale. The sigs and the colt are fairly expensive tho.

The G21 is an awesome gun. If you have large hands then you'll love it. The recoil is very modest on the G21 I found but then again recoil is perceived differently by everyone. Simple, ultra reliable, 10 round cap and fun to shoot. Oh and almost half the price of an HK as cool as they are.

Large hands and glock do not go good together.

What're you talking about? Of course they do. Small hands and Glock don't go good to together. I can handle my G20 perfectly because I've got bigger hands. Let my gf hold it to fire it once but she couldn't get a good grip on it.

Then I recalled that the FBI phased over from the 20 to the 22 model because of the reduced cartridge and smaller grip making it easier for their female and shorter agents to handle it more proficiently.

GunGuy34 - I have a Kimber 1911 (BP Ten II) with polymer stock that I've considered selling. It's only seen approximately 80 rounds and is in excellent condition (I clean before & after range, so is pristine). It's a superb handgun but ever since I got my long-time coveted 10mm, the Kimber hasn't seen much action and I'm afraid has become a Safe King. Has a ten round magazine, manual, and disassembly tool. Features a dual safety feature (the normal and one that's disengaged when it's held).

You find it hard to get 10mm ammo?

You find it hard to get 10mm ammo?
For the first few years after I bought my Glock 20, finding the ammo (locally or online) was rather difficult. Fortunately when I bought the Glock in Alberta, I actually bought out the store's entire supply of 10x25mm (Winchester HP) - about 750 rounds (lol). That amount was sufficient for awhile. Good thing I did my research. :)

When my ammo supply got low, I only fired it on special occasions and used my 9mm A94 (Bulgarian Browning-like replica) to do most my handgun training.

Recently (since last year) I found that Whole Sale Sports sometimes sells the ammo. Except at quite a high price. Nonetheless, at least I've finally found somewhere local to acquire it. I've kept most of the cases so when I get into reloading, I'll be able to alleviate the difficulty of resupply.

It seems you own everything but a 1911. If that's the case, you should probably have one. I've owned a few 1911s, and they're a very good design. I also own a Glock 20, which isn't much different from the 21. It's a really good gun, probably better than the 1911, but the fun factor is not much different from any other gun. If you're looking for pinpoint accuracy, you can't do better than a good 1911.
