Opinions on what 45ACP pistol to get?

No one has mentioned the FNP .45 tactical yet.

Might be worth looking at.

My first .45ACP was an Armco tuned 1911 Government model. Great value for the money but I hated field stripping it for cleaning.
I'm now into a Sig P220 Combat that's as easy to break down as my G17.
Less cleaning time=more range time:)

I've shot a couple of USP's and a few 1911's(colt, norc, STI) and a G21sf(my personal gun), and guess what?

I liked them all!!!

But there's a big difference in price...

That's why I started with the Glock.

(love the look of those FN45's though!)

No comments on the HK compact 45?

the only HK I ever liked was the P30L - very nice feel, ergos are awesome compared to their HK45 - just soo blocky.

FNP45 also comes with 3 mags and everything is ambidextrous on the gun which is great for lefties :)

If you are looking for 1911 platform:

First I would suggest you take a careful look at the Dan Wessons. It is probably one of the best "out of the box" 1911 you can get. I bet you if you handle one, you will never let go of it.

Second, the Colt 1911 series 70, or the new 1991 series.
Third, the Kimbers.
Above 3 are the "traditional" 1911.

Non-traditional are the S&W 1911 and the Sig 1911. Both are very nice. Make sure you get the latest production on the Sigs (GSR Revolution XO).

I myself ended up getting the Dan Wesson (and i want more).

Just my 2 cents...:)

I had a Taurus 1911, SIG 220ST and now have a USP45 SS but will probably sell it too- a little too big for my hand. its is fun to shoot and is pretty accurate tho. if i had to get another one id look into CZ97, GLock 30 and a FNP45.

Another vote for a 1911....I actually didn't care for them early on but now - easily the best feeling pistol out there - for me.:)

Me too me too:cheers: I love almost all kind of gun like CZ, Beretta, XD etc, never care about Glock and 1911, but now I settle on 1911 and Glock, don't care the others as time is too limit for everything.

x3 on the Sig 220 45acp, I got my 1984 date coded West German 220 with heel release NIB several years ago from a collector and have never looked back it's definitly my never sell pistol. It's arguably one of the most finest combat pistols in existence. In any case it's always been a better shooter than I am.

Here is my 220(top) with a 229 I no longer own. The 229 was purdy but could never hold a candle to the 220 in accuracy.

I didn't read previous posts/

For the .45 ACP cartridge, IMO, the 1911 is the quintessential platform.

If you agree with that, then the next question to answer is how much do you want, or how much disposal income you have to spend?

1911 pistols range from 300 (for a used Norkie) to 4,000 or more for a high-end NighthawkBaerBrownWilson.

IMO, it is not now much you spend on the gun, but how much time you spend practicing properly. A 300 buck used Norkie Commander works fine for me.

The best combat handgun ever made is the sig p220 period. Barreta makes a nice one that comes in a Pelican case, forget the number, HK usp is great, have a match, 1911 (over 100 manufactures have made this platform, must be good) but the absolute best is a West German made sig P220. I don't own one yet, do own hk but looking for the sig

Were we separated at birth?

both are amazing quality and tight fit and back up with good customer service. I prefer sig over hk though.

Dude, have you ever ordered parts from RNicholls? They're so freakin slow they come across as anti-gun - without a doubt HK's importer (aforementioned RNicholls) is the absolute worst organization to deal with in the North American firearms industry. As far as Sig goes, take a look around, there are plenty of issues that crop up with Sig products - there's at least one out right design flaw that so far Sig has done nothing about, but it's well enough known that there is an aftermarket fix for it. QC on US produced Sigs is far from perfect.
