Opinions on Winchester 555 .22LR bulk packs

Hmm.
I have NOT had good luck with the Winchester 555 or 333 packs in some of my semi-auto rifles. It cycles my 10/22 ok in the rotary mag, but performs terribly in any 922 25 rounder, and poorly in my GSG drum. I find them not great for my Black Dog drum for my Pietta ppm50, nor are they great in my JW-14 with 25 round Champion bananas. Slightly better in the original 10 round mag.

I have marker all my left over Win ammo as "bolt/lever"...it's fine for that.
I have even had the bullet bend over at 20 degrees during a fail to load.

Don't like 'em for semis except original rotary 10/22 mag.

Prefer CCI and Fed bulk
.

Long story short I've got an opportunity to buy around 5000 rounds for a pretty good price, but I've nevr used them before.

Reviews I've been reading are mixed to say the least.

Some say they work flawlessly in all their .22's, some say they only work well in single shot and bolt action, others complain of constant misfires, FTL, FTE, ect.

Realizing each gun is different, anyone have any first hand experience with this ammo?

about 2/3rds through my 3rd box using my gsg 1911 .22 lr,

nor a single issue yet.

actually that's not ttue - maybe 6 fte during the 1sr box.

No, both the pistol and 2 semis we used worked well with other ammo just not the 555 white box crap.

Before you and 1,000,000,000 others who like to bash the stuff get let off the chain and give out your opinion on it being "crap", consider the construction of the actual bullet itself. It's a wide and deep hollow point with an almost flat nose. Give it some thought and think of how that is going to play out in most semis.

Not all bullets are created equal OR for all firearms. Think of all the fun some of those 30-30 guys have had over the years. In most cases with the white box (perhaps most that I've seen) it's been PRIMARILY user error. Wrong ammo in the wrong gun. I'm not saying it can't be used in semis but when you look at the bullet design.... It probably shouldn't be used in semis.

It's unfortunate people can't look at their different 22 LR rounds and discern the difference. The following is a link to winchesters rimfire page and should give the person (maybe OP) some insight on winchester rimfire. For the record, I'm not really a winchester fan by any means but the issues I see most times with these bullets is USER ERROR. Perhaps they should redesign this bullet to work in semis but I believe they've already created other types of 22 LR that feed semis reliably in 36g CPHP.

I bought a box recently and every 2nd or 3rd one is a dud, literally, even when you try to fire the same round 3 or 4 times. Tried it in 5 different rifles, a CZ, a Browning Buckmark, two Ruger 10/22s and a Henry, so definitely not the rifles fault. Probably going to throw the rest of the box out. I've had boxes before that worked just fine so seems to be luck of the draw.

That sucks, I haven't seen it (yet) personally but with their QC I don't doubt it.

I have had zero issues with the 555 bulk packs.

Dirt cheap, goes bang every time, cycles my 10/22 no problem.

I even ran about 30 rounds over a chrony and the velocity was very consistent.

Store price at Wal-Mart is now something like $25.47 a box, so if you got it for $15 that's a smokin' deal for decent bulk pack ammo.

All my .22's cycle it well. My modded 10/22's and my lh Savage .22 absolutely love this ammo. I stocked up on the Walmart red box 555's about 4 years ago, picked up around 25,000 - 30,000 rounds at $19.88 per 555. Best ammo decision I've ever made.

That's how much I like this ammo.

It has excellent terminal performance as well, acts and sounds almost like Rem Yellow Jackets when used on gophers.
