I've handled a couple of guns with XS Ghost Ring sights and I like them, but I haven't had a chance to shoot with them. I'd like to hear from some members who have actually used them.
What rifles do you have them on?
Have you used them for hunting?
What ranges?
Bright vs. low light etc.
Thanks for any input, Moose Masher.

I have a set on my Marlin 1895 45/70. Only used them on a range so far (no hunting) but they are MILES better than the stock sights. Install is easy, and they are easy to pick up quickly.

Low light, can't say, but I imaging MUCH better than stock. The white line really jumps out at you.

Just my opinion Moose Masher but I have both the XO ghost ring and the Williams WGRS peep and I prefer the WGRS as it has more adjustably and has different size aperture pieces so you can pick the one you want to fit your hunting conditions...Also I think think the WGRS would be a little more tougher site...The XO site should have some protective ears on it in my opinion...:)

Tried the XS sights on my Marlin Guide Gun but didn't care for them. I went for the Brockman ghost ring and Tritium front. The Ashley is definitely cheaper in cost, but too large an aperature for me. Brockman aperature is threaded and accepts different aperatures. Smaller aperature gives better accuracy and doesn't bother me when sighting game. To each his own...

i have the xs ghost ring sights with wings on my marlin 1895g.I installed them in 10 minutes and went to the range i never shot ghost ring before and on the first shot at 50 yards standing i got bulls eye with no ajustments at all .I love them

I believe TSE (The Shooting Edge; see sponsor link above) carries XS Sights.

Skinner sights are the "Bees Knees" for sure. I sold my XS sights after installing Skinners on my 1895 guide. I have since installed them on my Marlin 1894C as well.

Adjustable aperture size, trim profile and more options for the front blade set them apart from the XS system IMHO. Dr. Skinner ships to Canada no problem and his customer service is second to none.
However BE WARNED that the Skinner sights are not as user friendly as the XS system. You usually have to tailor [file] your front blade for your rifle, where as the XS front sight is a one piece, bolt on affair.

I put an XS sight on my wife's Husky .30/06. If I had a complaint it would have to do with adjusting the windage which is a little finicky and requires a very small screw driver to loosen the screw on one side then advance the screw on the other.

Mounted on a Weaver base, the sight sits a bit on the high side, but other than aesthetics this has not been to be a problem as yet, and the sight is easily picked up even when shooting quickly. A lower sight might require you to mash your face tightly on the cheek piece to obtain a proper sight picture.

Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming.

Boomer, Where did you get yours?
I have a Husky Featherweight 30/06 that would be sweet with these sights.
Did it come with the front sight(the one with the white stripe)? If not, what are you using on the front?

I prefer the Skinner front sight to the XS one, as it is finer. I don't have any experience with Skinner's rear sights, though.

I have a Winchester Model 62A pump .22 with a Marbles tang sight. I first tried the XS front sight and I found that it is fairly coarse for plinking at one of my favourite targets: fired shotshells.

My Skinner front sight came with a height of .645" from top to dovetail bottom. I knew I wanted about a .500" tall sight, so I scribed a line on both sides, made a rough cut using a Dremel with a cutoff wheel, and finished up with a file. I then touched it up with cold blue.

That said, I can definitely see the XS as being a potentially a very good setup for big game at close ranges. The white stripe should work well in low light. They can be had from either The Shooting Edge or Brownell's.

Skinner sights are ordered directly from the maker and the price includes shipping, even to Canada.

With a peep sight, a square post is much better than a bead, as the eye naturally wants to center the bead in the aperture. I find that this makes it difficult to aim the rifle such that the point of impact sits on top of the front sight, rather than covering the point of impact. You may also find that a different front sight height is needed to zero the peep sight.

Unfortunately, neither XS nor Skinner make a rear sight for the Winchester 1895.

With a little patience you can cut a very thin strip of Scotchlite (reflective tape) and apply it to a post-type front sight. It really picks up a lot of light. I've tried BrightSights sight paint as well and it really is bright.
